General Glass vs solid roof

General Glass vs solid roof

In case this isn't completely clear – I was saying second hand if you had two cars identical (except for, say, heated mirrors), you can't say one is worth 2 grand more just because its called a Lounge, (or Sport for that matter).

Except apparently you can, so I stand corrected!!

As has been pointed out time and time again, it's not what options are on the car, it's the spec level which matters. It's like the argument that a car registered on the day before the 59 plate is worth just as much as the car registered on the first day the 59 plate comes out.

The car on the 59 plate could have been built AFTER the one on the 09 plate yet it is always going to be worth more if everything else is equal.

Have you bought this car yet? Cos I got to tell you are going to have 'buyers remorse' in suicidle proportions when you do!!!

Don't you mean BEFORE to correctly illustrate your point? That would make the car older but with a newer registration. Or was my time on Vulcan studying logic completely wasted?

Yes that's what I mean. What would we do without you Notts? :p

Speaking as someone who owned a car with a glass electric sun roof for 12 years and parks at work in an completely open carpark, I'm so glad I don't have any glass on the roof of my 500. Now on leaving work I open the car door and get in and drive off, whilst before I'd open the door, put the keys in and start car, open windows put blowers on full and then get into the car, ready to set off. I used the electric sun roof about 10 times in 12 years and always had the blind pulled across to avoid the sun in the eyes that also came in above sunglasses level.

Also the sunroof required drainage tubes that blocked up and can caused water in the car:mad:.

I also think roof stripes look better without a sunroof.

The sunroof on the 500 is heat reflecting. I know exactly what you mean though, the wifes Subaru has a sunroof and anytime where it's sunny and above 20 degrees it's baking inside when you get in. The 500 doesn't have this problem though.

Again, each to their own, but by the time I'd specced up my Pop with what I wanted (£10,720 excluding the glass roof) It was just cheaper to have the Lounge (and again better for the resale value)
I have no major like or dislikes for/against the roof. I quite like it but I would have like to do something with the roof if I hadn't had it. All you can do is go and have a sit and make up your own mind...

Shows how much I don't know. What's the difference between spec and options? Actually I'm not sure I even want to know. The more I find out the more confusing it gets!!!

Ok , so I presume spec is what the car already comes with and options are added on afterwards?

I think you made a great choice. Stuff this 'buyers remorse' rubbish! You've bought YOUR car... who cares what anyone else thinks.#

And I am SHOCKED that the same spec'd car can be 2 insurance brakets different! Good stuff for you! Not so great for me and my sport :(

Sorry to be thick but does this mean the Pop will be cheaper to insure? If so, great. If not, boohoo! I shoulda checked it out first.

when I got my Lounge and phoned the insurance I was pleased with the quote I got - £132 for the year and that was with the other half on it too - was about £35 more expensive without him on it :slayer:

Spec is the 'base' level - this enables a book price in Glasses etc for either insurance or resale value. Options don't seem to come into these cost much, hence why people tend to recommend that you go for the best 'spec' you can afford.
At the end of the day you buy the car you want though, you wouldn't buy a different model if it had better resale so don't worry about spec, I'm sure you have no plans to sell it yet so just enjoy getting exactly what you wanted! :)

Crabman - it'll just because it'll cost more to replace thats all, as the model starts at over 1k dearer... If you costed them both up I can't imagine there being much difference at all (maybe just enough to cover road tax, so a nice Perk for Pop owners but nothing to upsetting for the rest of us)
