General Glass vs solid roof

Lol what a can of worms you've opened here :) so what have you decided? Now people do say the Pop seat bobble quicker... (if you don't have the leather) ;)
Im going to bed - what does 'BOBBLE QUICKER' mean - too abstract or technical for me - I thought cars were boys things, anyway Im scared and going to bed night night:confused::)

Bobble is that annoying thing sweaters can do when you get bumps over them :) not very technical at all I'm afraid lol. Good Night Jkay.

EP - You can option the roof on any 500, but it is standard on the Lounge. The standard is a fixed glass roof. On all trim levels you can also option an electric sunroof.

SOLID no question of doubt. Sun roofs are a nightmare (leaking creaking crap) and all the glass mularkey will very soon start to rattle. Dont even think about it!

Errrrrr you do realise a fixed sunroof is no more likely to leak that your windscreen as it is fixed in place in exactly the same way. My wifes Subaru is an L reg and the opening sunroof has never leaked one drop.

I also sat in a Lounge with the fixed glass roof and it just feels to me that it does something odd to the headroom that really bothers me. I am 5ft 7 so fairly tall tho not a giant, yet in the Lounge I couldn't get the driver's seat low enough to feel comfortable.

I'm 5'10" and have a Lounge and I've got plenty of room in mine, both for my head and my legs and everything else, while still having a great driving position. I've sat in a friend's Pop and it was no different, just darker.

we had a mondeo with a sunroof for ages, it's never leaked or rattled.
we're having a lounge with the fixed roof, wanted opening one but couldn't really afford it. never mind
it'll be nice to have a car that's nice a light with ivory ambience, compared to our previous ford with black leather everywhere and all dark.
i'm going to love it !!

My fiancée and I both feel that the glass roof makes the 500 looks like it has a receding hair line! :p

We liked the idea of it from the inside perspective (more light etc)... but didn't realise it had a bar across the top of the windscreen. I mean, if they do that, why not have a 'normal' sun roof?

So, we're another SOLID voter!

Would you feel comfortable driving around in a car which didn't have that bar there? I wouldn't.....

Hehe, oh dear!

I am going for the Pop with solid roof and I'm having air con. I'm having the tan leather seats. I do love the Ivory and red ones in the Pop – they would be my second choice but I think the tan colour goes really well with the cha cha azure body that I've chosen.

My final (until I change my mind again!) spec is:

1.2 Pop
Cha cha cha azure
Tan leather/ivory ambience
Air con
Blue & Me
Chrome kit
Chrome wing mirrors
Vintage wheel trims (I just added these!).

I went and sat in the Pop for a long time and I spoke to the dealer again and I feel pretty confident this is the right choice for me.

But I'm still interested in hearing people's opinions up til the point the dealer tells me that no more changes can be made!!;)

Madness. Sheer madness! Go for the sport and have the rear spoiler taken off or something!

Personally, I would be going for the lounge as I have always loved the fixed glass roof and was one of the main things I wanted when I originally went for the car. The glass roof adds loads of extra light to the inside - I've got a black interior and it still seems really light! Also, if you are speccing all those extras aren't you better going for something like the lounge which has blue&me and air con as standard...not to mention alloys and the chrome kit! :)

Not madness – you cannot get the ivory ambience on the sport and that is a 100% must. I hate the spoiler, I hate the tinted back windows, I don't like the alloys.. do I need to go on!!!

The only reason to get the sport would apparently be to keep the sell-on price – but there will be far fewer cars around specced like mine. I am hoping of course that I don't have to sell it - ever, but I'll take my chances!:)

Sorry I did forget.

Thing is all the options you've got will do pretty much zero for the resale value even if it's the only one like that in the world.

You disregarded the Start Stop now then?

Yeah – I don't really understand the technology behind it – haven't seen enough reviews to feel confident about buying, and it does seem to have fewer airbags unless I'm mistaken.

As for the resale value – the only difference between my car and a lounge will be:
Solid roof instead of glass. Different (nicer) wheels. No chrome exhaust (I'm sure that could be added). In addition it'd have leather seats, and one careful lady owner :D. I would only sell it privately anyway, so no worries there – I think I could be a decent saleswoman ;).
I hope I'm not being naive but most people I know do not look at cars in the same way people seem to on this forum.

You might be right, but I would be surprised....

Lounge would have the heated mirrors, but I do tend to agree with you on the roof. That, the wheels & the speedo graphics put me off the Lounge...

The speedo graphics were something I didn't think I'd like but now that I've got the car I quite like the contrast between the rev counter background and the speedo background.
