General Giardiniera Motor Rebuild

It is a 1970 500L. Got it for 3800 euro. Not the greatest of bargains, but seemed fair compairing to the prices on subito. I on that site everyday looking for toys since a year ago.

The Vespa was a christmas gift from my wife in 08 and I spent much time and money rebuilding that thing. My wife was hinting to me about getting me an Ape50 for our catholic wedding gift.

Isn't that what COLA's for? :)

Hey vvatc,
Hopefully not too off topic - I may be either about to rebuild my 500F engine or replace it with a new 650cc unit, so tell me, what are the run-in instructions for a new motor?

Now I've used the words motor and rebuild in my question, so to keep completely on topic I should also use the word Giardiniera - oops, just did ;)

My mechanic told me that I didn't really have to do anything different. Just try not to rev it too high for the first couple hundred kilometers - but I don't run it too hard anyway. He did say that I may need to adjust the valves in a few months and I've noticed they started chattering a bit. So, I may try my hand at doing a valve job in the next couple months.
