Hi.
The flywheel on a Giardiniera has 4 holes machined on it's one edge, I assume to assist with balancing.
Does anyone know where the holes should be on the flywheel in relation to the crankshaft to achieve this balance.
In the pic, with the pistons at the top of their stroke (to the left) and the crankshaft balance weight to the right, where should the holes be?

Hope that makes sense??

Thanks
Steve

Theoretically, the flywheel should be balanced 'off' the crank. However, if you haven't yet removed the flywheel from the crank, mark the crankshaft (might have to be in the spigot bush) and the flywheel so that it can go back in the same place. Maybe another Forum member has a picture of their Giardy engine prior to removing the flywheel, and can advise you of the position of the crank, relative to the flywheel.

i was asked this exact same question about six months ago by a guy who bought a Giardiniera which was pretty much undriveable due to excessive vibration. I studied every diagram and picture that I could get my hands on and concluded that the holes would face in the direction of the cylinders when the pistons are at tdc. In fact if you look carefully at the sectional diagram in your Haynes manual even though the sectioned flywheel has not been crosshatched you can see that the draughtsman has used draughtsman’s licence to show the hole with the pistons at tdc. Something I would have done when I was on the board.
