Does anyone know if the Gearbox used in the JTD130 (yeay 2000) was used in any other model as I need one. Mine just shattered around the dipstick area of the casing. No warning - just a small bang. All gears still appear to be usable but I'm obviously losing gearbox oil.
Any information would be great.

Latest update on my JTD130. The gearbox dumped the rest of its oil in spectacular fashion so I'm obviously not using it. Having spoken to several gearbox 'specialists' I've had quotes between £575 and £1000 to supply and fit a 'reconditioned' gearbox with a 12 month guarantee. Although none of them have seen it yet, several have said that its more likely that the diff exploded and has taken the gearbox casing with it - and that its a common problem with JTD engines.
I'm also worried that with the apparent rarity of this box they will attempt a repair rather than a replacement. Is this a viable alternative or should I be wary of this?
I'd appreciate any feedback anyone has, including if anyone has a gearbox they would like to sell me.
(By the way I was quoted £2995 for a new gearbox - supply only!)

you should be ringing around every breakers and scrapyard until you find one, expect to pay £75-200 for a removed guaranteed box. i paid 75 a couple of weeks ago but that took weeks of shopping about, the worst quote i got was 200. fitting isnt difficult technically, you will know what you're doing even if you only have a haynes manual- but it is a pain to do and having the correct tools and equipment is vital, dont do it on a jacked up car! the hardest part is getting rusty bolts off, one of the drive shafts has 8 nuts&bolts holding it on, they are a nightmare to remove. fitting at a garge will vary in price as much as the box, last time i paid 100, time before that i paid 60, so it depends. i prefer to do it myself and not because the price is a rip off, its just garages cant be trusted, everyone will thread bolts and damage stuff, but at least i'll know about the damage and do something to fix it, garages just rush the job to get your car finished.
