Technical Gearbox swap

A question for a friend
He has a Ducato with the 1.9td engine (5 speed box) which is shot
He has been offered a box from a 2.5 td


1 Will this box go straight in without modification
2 Are the ratios the same


I apologise but the years of either I don't have??

I'm pretty sure the 2.0 petrol & 2.5 Diesel are the same box, as for the ratios...???
Do the hand books list the ratios (if you have them?)

Olympus, although Gareth may well be right in what he has posted I can only point out what happened in my own situation. I have a 1.9TD MH (1998) and last year had problems with the 2nd/3rd syncros on the gearbox. I managed to source some parts on e-bay but couldn't find everything I needed so I looked for a replacement gearbox.Found one advertised as from a 1998 1.9TD motorhome so bought it. When my mechanic checked it out he said it wouldn't have fitted my motorhome as the housing for the starter motor was different. Just saying that you will have to check more than the ratios cause gearboxes are obviously not all the same.
