Hi, Can anyone post details or a link to how to change the gearbox oil please (2002 1.9JTD ELX)? Manual says to use 75W/80 but a thread on here says 75W/90 synthetic. Any particular reason to go for the heavier one? Wish there was a Haynes for this thing.
Thanks!

ZC 75 synth[from fiat] or sae 75/90 ep .you will need 2 lts.
remove 12 mm allen key at front of gear box, level plug next to reverse lamp switch and check the oil level.if very low cure oil leak if any.[oil should be level with bottom of threads with plug out].under neath passenger drive shaft is the drain plug, facing the passenger wheel, again 12mm.remove plug, drain oil, refill to level plug, job done..........

Nice one multipete, you're a star (again!) (y) I'll give it a go at the weekend...
Cheers!

In case you're interested, I haven't been able to get the drain plug out yet. The suspension mount is only two inches from the plug and I can't get my socket-drive 12mm key in there. Need to find a suitable tool 'cos that plug is really tight and the 12mm key on a ring spanner won't shift it! Maybe an extra-long 12mm allen key with an extension pipe will do?

Ah, only two months to get round to the job again - pretty good for me! So I finally got hold of an extra long 12mm Allen key. Got the plugs out without problem. Read a useful bit of advice somewhere on this Fiat forum (which multipete's method above also covers)- loosen the fill plug FIRST, that way you know you can so you don't end up letting all the oil out before finding the filler plug is siezed or rounds off. Good advice! In my case it all went well. Lots of metal bits stuck on the magnetic drain plug so I think the oil change was well worth doing (48k miles). Put in about 1.75l of Castrol 80/90 manual. I bought a flexi funnel to refill with, but that's useless because of limited vertical space. Turns out you have to squirt the new oil in by squeezing the bottle it comes in. Obvious when you know! Some extra tubing (50cm or so) to fit on the bottle spout is really worth having.
Cheers!

Hiya.
I have bought 2Ltrs of Castrol Manual SMX-S 75W-85 Synthetic Transmission Fluid.
Can anyone tell me if this is the correct gearbox oil for 2001 Manual 1.9 Deisel Multipla (known as Fugly but we love it:D).
Thought i better ask before i put it in.
Cheers

Cheers.
I will give it a go tomorrow, along with bleeding the clutch and cleaning the linkage things.
I will let you know the results.

Ok. I changed the gearbox oil (used a 12mm allen key socket from Halfords and cut it down). Then bleed the hydraulic system, lovely clutch pedal and smooth gear changes :) for 30 miles today.
But it has just gone back to being hard to get into gear :(.
Anyone got any ideas please....

Hi ya all - again.
The gears are fine :D - unless we use the car on short stop / start journeys.
On a normal day Fugly is driven 6 miles to work and 6 miles home. At the weekend it is used for pooping down the shops running kids about ect, after 3 or 4 short runs in a few hours it will start becoming hard to get into gear. (n)..
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Cheers
