Technical Gearbox issue ?

Well only had the car a week and this morning on my way to work ive noticed that now when pulling off in 1st the gear lever moves backwards by quite a distance.
Also when going from 1st to second it doesnt feel the same as any other gear change.

Anyone experienced this ? If so what was it and what did you do ?

I struggle to put mine into 2nd gear, sometimes im having to fight with it, other times if i just cant get it in i slip into 3rd instead! Im interested to know whats up with mine while your on the subject

A gearbox mount would not cause this because the cables attach directly to the gearbox.. so the move with the gearbox.

To the OP: does this happen only in 1st ? or also in 3rd 5th?
i would say it's a cable issue or the bushing at the end of the cable on the gearbox side.

Does the abarth have the m32 box? And I'd say the 1.2 one would be something to be with the linkages

Yup mine is the m32 gearbox. I knew before i bought it they were a bit of an issue but sods law its gone wrong already !

Okay do done a bit of research and come to the conclusion its most likely the cables or a bearing. Live in derby and have no trust in any local garages ! Any recomendations close by !?

If you need the bearings doing on the m32 gearbox, I'm from Derby too and went to Halifax, there is a specialist on the m32 gearbox, cost me 550 quid and they did it in about 4 hours. If you need any info then pm me and il send you details but I do highly recommend as they was brilliant.

Well contacted the dealership i bought it from and he is going to take the car in an send it off to a specialist to have a new bearing kit fitted free of charge so all is well ! Be stuck in my old gp 1.4 for a week or so now though

Uh-oh...been driving mine for a couple of days now and noticed that the gear lever lurches back when releasing the clutch in first gear :shakehead:

A bit of movement is normal but keep watching it and see how bad it gets. Turn everything off and see if you have a whinning noise in any gear as you may have the same issue also see if you get a slight grinding noisr in neutral when stationary. Hope you have none of the above !

Finally got mine back ! Whole new bearing kit fitted. Box feels alot nicer now. Snake pass on sunday !!

Took it back under warranty and he sent it away to a specialist so not sure !
