Technical Gear Issue

Hi,

When driving through town yesterday I heard a clunk and the gear stick became a little looser when in gear but didn't experience any issue with running the car.

I've now tried using the car and can't get into any gear apart from 2 and 4. Any ideas?!

Petrol or diesel?

Gears are cable actuated, you'll need to check the cable runs. My thinking behind this is the gear lever slackness which maybe down to a broken cable or cable end disconnected.

I'd start off at the gearbox end, you'll probably need to remove the battery and tray to access the gearbox end, you can then move the gear lever and see if you get corresponding movement at the gearbox.
Should be easy to eliminate the gears 2-4 movement, so you can concentrate on the other movement axis.
There is a good thread on this forum about clutch replacement which is worth searching for information on accessing the gearbox.
