Hi

Ive got a seicento sporting 2003 one

Occasionaly when i change down from 5th to fourth the gears sort of grind a tiny bit, its not every time just every now and again.

I havent got a clue why cos have the clutch all of the way down.

Is the gearbox nackered

or is it somefin much easier to solve.

Cheers

K

Mine does this when i go from first to second and also if im stopping and want to go from third 2 second it will grind a little does this mean my clutch needs 2 be adjusted.

im guessin so as i know my boyfriend has adjusted it before and it never used 2 happen so ill ask him 2 have a look later

Make sure you stand over him: boyfriends have been known to return with dirty hands having done absolutely nothing! (Ooops -- I gave away the big secret )

Try another 2 or 3 turns clockwise -- it should be possible to get it so that the gears engage smoothly, but doing it this way is a matter of trial and error.

just out of curiosity is the clutch cable adjustment screw in the same place on a sei mpi, as it would be on an 899 cinq? (purely because I've done it one the old car but not on the new one - and methinks it bears looking at).

I'm curious cos I've got a similar problem. Does the 5->4 change grind if before engaging 4th you nudge the gearstick a bit into 3rd first? (without actually engaging 3rd)

So does it mean the clutch on mine is knackered or perhaps the gearbox itself? It does the same when changing from 2->3 at 4500rpm+ (nudging into 4th solves it), and 1st/2nd can be a bit hard and crunchy.

From 5->4 or 2->3 without nudging it into the other direction I can't feel the slight resistance just before engaging gear that I feel when doing other changes (3->4 for example).

PS: I've adjusted the clutch to the point that it sits like 10mm over the brake pedal, I dare not adjusting it further. It didn't make much of a difference tbh
