Hi I'm new to this forum! Just need answers.
I was driving my 1.2 8v punto 04 model in 3rd gear then went to go into second and heard a popping sort of sound and just stayed in 3rd gear, now it won't change. My gear stick move from 3rd to 4th ridiculously easy but doesn't change gear and won't move to any other gears or reverse.
Can someone give me an insight into the problem please and roughly the cost.
Thankyou :)

Although its not a common punto problem gearlinkages (usually outlive the car)
These seems to be a spate with sharp cold weather

Behind the battery there those 2 gear linkage cables
one does Left and right movement - one does the up and down movement
Check that both are sitting correctly on there joints - you can see them in the picture
They should simply pop on - however once they pop off - its happens more often till it no longer stays on

Check and report back!

Just checked, they are all in tact, it's going to the garage first thing in morning so I will keep you updated. Do you happen to know of any other reason?

All sorted now turns out it was the linkage that had broke going to cost me a small sum of 40 pound ( at least I don't have to pay out for a new gear box) thanks for the help!

£40 isn't too bad
Assuming a cable had snapped internally for diagnosis - removal and refitting isn't bad

My(& Girlfriends) Punto is now in the Fiat garage (here in France), but he couldn't give me an estimate so I'm dredding the worst. Will let you know what happens.
