Well, there's a picture of it in the Mk1 Haynes manual.
Never done any work on the trans of a Mk1 -- can you not follow the line down from the (clutch) master cylinder?

removed battery and the tray holding it and slave cylinder isnt there

sounds like you got a cable clutch to me - some mk1's have hydraulic some cable.
Just like FIAT -- find something that's not a problem, replace it with something that is..........
or lets take this car we just made and make not quite as good. seems standard issue with all models of fiat, old and new.
Towards the bottom left of that big picture there's what looks suspiciously like the threaded portion of a clutch adjuster...........

yea thats the cable
Try adjusting it up a little -- 2 turns clockwise might make a lot of difference to gear change quality. Probably the same mechanism as on a Cinq.

actually the only gear that has been the same for some time is the reverse one, it doesnt always go in the first time
holding the clutch down, putting it in to reverse gear and u can feel if it is in the reverse gear or not, sometimes it goes fine and other times i need to try like 2 - 3 times, putting it to neutral let go of the clutch and trying again
gonna try adjusting it, wonder if that will fix the reverse as new oil didnt

turned the bolt clockwise few times on the clutch cable, tightening the cable just means clutch pedal needs to travel less to fully engage?
