The gaiter on my Mk1 punto 60s has seen better days and it's time to change it So I decided to change the handbreak gaiter to.

The question is how do I remove the gear stick gaiter and do I have to replace any clips for the gear knob to? if so I may also change the gear knob.

Same question how do I remove and change the handbreak gaiter I see a flap at the back and assume you remove the screw to slot the base plate out again do I need to replace any clips to?

Got the gaiters on order at the moment.

Cheers Bill

From what I remember you remove 2 nuts from the front and one from the back after praising off the plastic cover. Then the whole gaiter can be removed together with the base. Not sure if you can replace the gater without replacing the base as well.

cheers I take it that's the handbreak gaiter your on about??ff

Sort of worked out the gearstick gaiter to only issue i've got is the gearknob won't pull off so thinking Ill have to prise it off with a screwdriver anyone advise on a good gearknob to replace he old one???

Ok I got the gaiters yesterday and have previously tried just pulling the gear knob off without luck.

I am thinking of putting a screwdriver under and levering it off is this OK or is there a grub screw I have to remove cos it shouldn’t be as hard as it is to pull it off but all I've seen is it being easily pulled off cheers.

Ok today is D day for gaiter change any support / reassurance at the proposed method of gear knob removal appreciated.

I Did it with a screwdriver no issues also removed the plastic and sprayed it red to match need a good gear knob to replace the factory one. I used a stanley blade to remove the handbreak gaiter from its plastic mount then superglued the new one onto it. just waiting for spray to dry before replacing everything.
