Just fink its gona be like a new car when its finished! Ive been following your thread all the way through and ive gota say it was such a big task you've taken on! But u'lll luv it afterwards.. maybe some car mats to sort your floor problem out! Or you could lay some alley sheets and cut your self some floor pannels they'll go with the stripped out look in side? Keep it up, your so close but yet it can seem so far away dont give it!!! Maybe abit of overtime to sort the debt out; its the way i try n sort mine out when i have a spending sprey :D

Keep up good work bud, i hope to see the pics still comin strong (y)

Just to reiterate whats been said, keep at it. Things usually get alot worse to get alot better if you get me. It may look a mess now, but so what! Its an old Uno Turbo, and you're giving it a new life. Ok so the money could be spent else where, but ask yourself what would you be happier having... the UT back on the road in mint condition, or wasted on some other car that will probably need the same treatment anyway :p

Also second the checkerplate flooring idea to hide different floor panels. If you use proper Ally then that should look sweet, as well as be light and durable, and masks off the imperfections. I'd be tempted to do the whole floorpan with it myself, but then thats just me

End of the day, you're getting a decent rustfree reconditioned but still original Uno Turbo. Thats pretty much a rareity nowadays isnt it? Cars are a bottomless pit whatever they are, so you may as well put it into a car that you enjoy - and its clear the Uno is the clear choice otherwise you wouldnt have bothered to start in the 1st place :p And the bank of mum n dad, thats what they're there for :D

Chin up

cheers peeps, i get it back tonite so will show u all with some better pics. gonna have to do alot more myself but i'm gonna make a top job. really go to town on it. still feel down about it but may feel better once i got it home and can inspect it myself fully on my own. wanna get it done so much but i wont it to be near as dam it mint! or i wouldnt have started it!!!

gotta keep looking at this pic lads 'n' lasses

It`s coming on strong, just think about how much you`ve done in such a short time!!!!
If YOUR not happy with the floor sort it now before it`s painted and back together, you`ll never have the chance to do it again, there must be an uno in a breakers somewhere with a solid passenger floor,if we All looked i`m sure we`d find one and we could post it to you,(i`m only writing this because i know how it feels if your not 100 percent happy with something)
Theres a couple of unos in a scrappy near me if you want me to go take a look just give me a shout and i`m sure theres at least another 100 guys and gals that would do the same.
Keep up the good work!!! (y)
Cheers

MOs1smaller.jpg

or was it the older ones (the smaller 14" ones in proper black?)

ive been away to ireland, and also needed a little break from it. gotta have a break every now and again. gonna get a new angle grinder then i'll be away, getting the inside all ready and preped for spraying (which i'll do myself with a spray gun). then i can get the interior back in, then drive it to my mates so he can get the outside bodywork up to scratch!! bear with me everyone, i will be posting pics soon!!

Dunc, don't give up mate!

Sounds like you've hit the 'wall' like marathon runners do at the 15 mile mark. You feel like you've done so much, yet the end doesn't seem to be anywhere near in sight.

Plus you're at the stage where everything is stripped out, and you are looking at a bare shell and a huge pile of bits. It's at this point that you think 'how the f**k am I ever going to get this all back together again?' Perservere and you will.

It's also worth bearing in mind how much you've already got done in a short space of time. Some restorations/ projects take years to complete.

If it's any consolation, I bought a 1974 Ford Cortina way back in 1990 to restore/ modify. It took me three years to get the bodywork done/ resprayed, put in rebuilt suspension/ subframes, strip and rebuild a 2.8 litre V6 and do what seems like a million other jobs. Though I got it about 80% finished by late 1993, it's still sitting in a lock up waiting for the final injection of cash to get it on the road. Change of career plus working/ travelling abroad meant it had to be mothballed. I've only had it for 15 years...

Plus you'll find that the most satisfying point of a restoration is when you do start bolting bits back on to your restored shell. As long as you've labelled everything and made notes during disassembly it should all go back a breeze. It's the old adage about 'preparation is everything'. Do all the prep/ restoration work on the parts first before fitting up, and it will make it go back together much quicker.

As for the time and cost, both classic and custom car magazines used to say the same thing about doing a project like yours. Work out how much you think it will cost and also how long it will take to do. Then at least double those figures (more likely treble them) and you'll come closer to the real cost and time needed

And as Fro$ty said in an earlier thread, think of the satisfaction you'll get when you have a rust free Uno turbo and even better when you can blow the doors off some expensive modern car that costs ten times as much as your turbo.

Don't give up, we're all willing you on to finish this!

Keep us all updated please!

right :( bad news. after all this effort, i reckon its just gonna be easier to either reshell it into a mint shell, or just sell everything off in bits as its just sat on my driveway rotting. well fooked off at the moment, feel well down about it. theres just too much left to do and i havent got the skills to do it. i dont mind having a go but it wont be up to the standard i want it so i think im gonna just reshell.

Damn how much rust is there?? My mate has exactly the same problem with his mark 1, he has stripped it all down to the bare shell but there is just way too much welding to do so he's gona reshell it into another shell. The only way you could effectively keep your original uno turbo identity is to buy a brand new shell from fiat. Though i dont know if they can still get them or how much it would cost, probably be better and cheaper to find a decent 1 litre mark 2, theres loads of em about mate, then transfer everything over. Its pretty straightforward, everything bolts up in the same place as the Turbo chassis. Thats what i did when some plonker crashed into my original Uno Turbo only ten days after i bought it! You can imagine how gutted i was lol But i didnt give up mate, just to show you heres a few pics of how my uno started out life. Hope it inspires you to finish off the car.
Its been a long trek for me through the woods and i still aint finished the car yet, as you know with uno turbos theres always a big list of things to do hehe But i'm getting there slowly and surely :D
