Technical fuel pump

ok,so im getting spark from each wire and the plugs are fresh. the starter kicks and the motor turns over and occasionallyi cant get the car to fire and run at idle for a few secounds. i un-hooked the hose from the fuel pump and it would not spit fuel. it is an EFI car, is my fuel pump definatey shot? is there any way to make sure? thanks
