Fuel Gauge Problem - Or normal??

When my fuel is low the gauge will drop from just above red to empty and then come back after about 20 seconds. It this a warning to tell me to fill up or a problem? On a 1.4 Sporting 2004.

keep it off reserve, soon as light comes on put some in.

That's good I was reading about all sorts of potential problems - so it's just a clear warning?

once you get past quarter tank
gauge goes up and down like yo-yo.

sometimes ican have quarter tank and then orange light will flicker on,

going up and down hills does this

Just another special feature of the FIAT, mine literally says empty though. It was a bit of a panic the first time but I'll just fill it up when it starts doing that .

Sorrying to bring up an old thread but didn't want to start a new one - the fuel gauge hit 1/4 yesterday and went to empty. Now it is staying on empty , not coming back up. I haven't refueled it yet but I will be at weekend. I'm having electrical faults which are due to be fixed, is this related/could it be?

I suppose it could be. Mk2? Could be the dreaded body computer -- S & B may have some ideas.

Mk2B, and now it's got a bit dryer up here it's come back on - it seems the car doesn't like the wet.
