Technical Fuel filling problem

I've just bought an 05 diesel Multipla and filling it with fuel is proving to be a challenge.

Unless I fill it extremely slowly, after a few seconds the diesel comes gurgling back up the filler and sprays out everywhere. I would hazard a guess that there's a breather somewhere that isn't breathing . . .

Any ideas?

I've had this problem at a shell garage, but only with a certain pump, it took me ages to fill up, it kept shutting off, so I always avoid that pump now.
