Technical Fuel filler flap not working properly....

Hello
My Abarth 124 fuel filler flap has stopped working ! The main plunger does goes in and out when the vehicle is locked/unlocked, but the flap will no longer secure in the closed position (unless you hold it closed and lock the car, but then when you unlock the car it springs open again).....is this a known issue ? What part needs to be replaced ? Any ideas would be gratefully received......thanks

Did it ever lock?
Most fiats I've known of don't have a lock on the fuel cap
But being a madza it may be different to most fiats cars

yes, the flap is spring loaded, push it in and it locks closed, push again and it springs open, its this function that has packed up......

Ah that makes more sense
My guess would be whatever is in the plunger part but there's no public access 5o the parts diagrams for the more modern cars so its hard to know
