I was bought a 2001 plate HGT on Wednesday and took it for a run last night. I did 96 miles down the A46 (fast flowing a road) at between 60-80mph. I left the house with a half a tank and arived home empty. That strikes me as wrong... my mates RX8 doesn't drink like that. Does that sound righ to you guys or does the car needto go back?
Thanx for any help!

Whenever i fill my tank up, the needle will be at the full position for quite a while, and then start to drop. You need to measure it a bit more precise.

Go fill the tank, go for a drive with avarage speed, fill it up again and note how much fuel you have used, and how many miles you have done.

talk pound notes mate, half a tank on a punto 15 quid ish.. half a tank on ya mates rx8 25 pound ish... different size tanks, stick a tenner i yours an a tenner in ya mates an see who goes furthest lol.. 15 quid tok me to leeds with 2 people in then back to bolton with 4 people in, 70 - 80 on m62 130mile round trip and still had a couple quid left in it.

In my punt i get roughly

10 miles for £1.

400 miles for £40

Mine rarely needs re-filling. :p I travel on average 20 miles a week, but over Easter I must have done at least 60 miles, yet it's only just hit the half way mark today, I haven't filled up since the end of March!

Thinks ...

I believe a Punto has a 45 litre (little shy of 10 gal) tank. Then an absolute fill at absolute empty would be £45 @ £1 per litre. What do you call “empty”? `Zero’ (fortunately you ran out of fuel 100m from home & coasted into your drive)? or the [fuel low] warning showed - & you still have your reserve)? I believe the [fuel low] warning comes on with 7 litres remaining.

£30 of fuel on top of a 7 litre reserve would give you around 37 litres in a 45 litre tank. A Punto has the capacity to do: 400+ miles on a full tank, 200+ miles on half-a-tank, 100+ miles on a quarter tank. Your fuel costs should be around 10p per mile.

Not alot, really, I know. I don't go anywhere other than round town. :p But I work a good 5 miles away, but only work a couple of times a week, the rest I'm studying.
