General Fuel consumption seems low

ok...ok... it's all gone a bit pair-shaped now!!

recalculation!

6,8 lt per 100 km
that is 14,7 lt per km.

1 km equals to 0,6214 of a mile
1 lt equals to 0,219 of a gallon

that all sums up to:

41,7 mpg

eggs on my face!:I

I should not be complaining at all!

I stand corrected.

I've just got back from France, and averaged 40mpg (assuming the onboard isn't lying!). That's taking it easy (running in) although I celebrated the 500 mile mark with a 100mph blast. Air Con was on most of the time.

Oh come on Abarth owners! If you buy a car like that and you care about fuel consumption then you've got a screw loose, a sandwich short of a picnic, the lights are on but no one's home, the wheel's spinning but the hampster is dead etc etc.

I use my MPG indicator for comedy value only! I think I got 4.5mpg under accelartion once, that was fun! :D

Couldn't agree more - no matter what the car is (Fiat, Ford, BMW), the trip computer is only ever gonna be a best guess as to what is happening to the fuel consumption.

My 1.6 Active is ammusing - flick to the instant consumption setting and sit on the ring road round Peterborough at a steady 70 and the readout shows anything from 27 to 46 mpg. I know that it ain't hills causing the variation as Peterborough is on the edge of the fens so is as flat as a pint of nightclub lager.

The range to empty is an entertaining one too - it's ranged from 260 - 270 for the last 30 miles or so and has on occasions increased rather than decreased.

The only sure fire way of getting an accurate indication of mpg is to fill to the brim and run it dry (or as dry as you dare) and compare miles covered to fuel used (i.e. what you manage to squeeze in the tank when you fill it back up).

Having had the car for a fortnight I've worked out that on a full tank I can get about 350 miles based on my usual lazy arse driving patterns (I live 2 miles from work), the wife driving (not worked out what the middle pedal does so uses engine for braking) and reasonable use of the aircon during the current warm spell. This equates to about 29mpg which isn't too bad considering - I suspect I'll be looking at a range of around 400-450 miles on a proper run which is 33-38mpg

But I haven't got an Abarth [V]

I suppose my figures (so far) match the manufacturers: 28 (urban)/ 49.6 (extra)/ 38.7 (combined)

i got a push bike about 5 years ago and ive not filled it up since i bought it, i reckon ive done about 1000 miles not bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

1.6 dynamic coming soon

just got back from a trip to chester this weekend. The car reported 33MPG and that was using the aircon!!

Still got petrol in the tank and done over 370 miles which is very good.

Must be the way I drove it before. If you take your time it's ok.

:)

Yellow 3 door Abarth!

I've now done 2000 miles and I'm more than happy with the fuel consumption. I got 40 mpg driving to France with the car chocka. Then driving 250 miles from Milton Keynes with an empty car but doing 80 - 100 mph, I still got 40 mpg. All with Air Con on.
On my 40 mile daily round trip to work and back I'm getting 38 - 41 depending on traffic etc, which is excellent compared to my 1.8 Escort's 28-30 mpg. Don't forget this includes cold starting, when I'll be getting 20 or less mpg. I'f I reset the trip once the car has warmed up, I'd increase the average quite bit.

You seem to be getting better figures with your 1.8 than I do with my 1.6 [:0]

I'm off to Bournemouth this weekend, so should be able to get some good data.

I picked up my new Stilo 1.2 on Wednesday and took it on a trip to Blackpool (UK) today. Averaging 70-80 on the motorway, the instant fuel consumption was in the 40-60 range depending on the up or down gradient.
One thing I noticed was that if I have the average consumption thing on, it was showing 36.7 when we got home as opposed to 27.3 when we set off. So the thing is, are you guys with low MPG figures talking about instant figures or average figures from new?
Don't forget the miles on your car before you get it are all put on in first gear or reverse so when you take delivery, the MPG figure will be around 6 MPG which gradually climbs as you add the miles more economically.

I'm a parrot, what do I know?

In my opinion the instant mpg is a waste of time. It changes that much second by second that it's useless. If I want o know my "instant" I just reset the trip and watch.
I'm currently getting around 38. That's on my 20 mile trip to work, including the cold start up.
Geordie: where did you get yout car from? In the North East?

You'ld better start using those gears

Average: 6.20 l/100Km
Top Consumption: 7.70 l/100km @ 190Km/h during +/-220 Km
Aircon on: 6.4 to 6.5 l/100km

That's about
Average : 45 mpg
Top Consumption: 36.85 mpg @ 118 mph during +/-140 mile
Aicon on: 43.55 to 44.54 mpg

Are you saying that you reached 190 km/h with the 80 active ??? what?? you were falling off a cliff or something?

I was going 190 Km/h an the rpm was aroud 5000 in 6th speed.
As you know the max bhp (80) is at 6300 rpm and tha max torque is around 4000 rpm.
Also i use SHELL V-Power gives more 5-10 bhp than regular unleaded fuel.

Hi

New to the forum so hello to all.

Following this with interest as we have a 1.2 active.

The car is used mainly for shortish journeys in heavy traffic and returns approx 37 mpg. Calculated by hand gives the same figure as the trip computer.

I quite believe 190 KPH from a 1.2 our previous 1.2 Punto would see that figure with ease fully loaded with 4 people plus luggage.

My experience with various loan cars from my dealer is that the 1.2 engine is smoother than the 1.6 and 1.8 and loses very little in performance around town -- different matter on the open road

Well, if you say so, i guess i have to go along.
Still though, with 2 people on board and about 30-40 kg of luggage in the boot, i managed to get 170. And the process from going from 160 to 170 was painfully slow. i was using BP's equivelent fuel as shell V-power.
Factory states that 170 is the top speed.
I will give it another go though with just myself in the car. I just need to find a very long straight road!!

AS I said I base my belief on my Punto that had the same engine, I haven't yet had my Stilo anywhere that such speeds are allowed.

The only differnce is the tuning characteristics of the engine although I do seem to remember the Mk2 Punto with an identical engine to the Stilo had a lower quoted max speed than the Mk1 with the 16V engine

I think this proves what I said in another topic: that the speedo's are miles out at that speed.

Have a 1.9JTD 80, drives 160 miles every workday - 130 miles are freeway at 82mph, rest is at 64mph with a few roundabouts. Getting 43mpg. Diesel cost is roughly €2.7/gallon

By the way - would love to chip it.

Got a ticket the other day. Doing 64 on a 50 road - €135. Yuck. Not only that - they do speed checks at least 6 times/month on that piece of road - which I have to drive twice every day!
