I decided to keep a log of my fuel comsumption. So I created a little spreadsheet to work it all out for me.

I missed the figures for the first tank full, but calculated my mpg on the second. Before I give you the result, I will explain the usage - varied. A couple of round trips on the motorway (1.5hrs long, ish) dual carriage way driving, short (2 mile) journeys to work and back, going the shops, etc. I have been using the air conditioning too.

22mpg

Now I know the a/c will be reducing my mpg, but by that much[?]

It's the first time I've had a brand new car, so will it require a few miles to improve? (I have done ~1100m.) But hell, I get better mpg out of my 1979 Series III Land Rover, ffs!

Just worked out my mpg on the last tank of petrol. This time I reduced (slightly - it's warm atm) the number of times I used the A/C. I also used Shell Optimax, instead of regular unleaded.

I returned 27mpg.

Still a little low imo. [V]

That's definitely not very good, my 306gti6 manages to get 29mpg on average. I'll just scribble the 1.6 off my list of possible models for a new Stilo ;)

i know that my dad manages around 50mpg on his 1.9JTD. obviously petrol models aren't gonna be that good but fiat quote that the 1.6 bravo should get 36.7mpg combined and the 1.6 active stilo (with or without aircon) should get 38.7mpg combined.

Ahh, short journeys i.e. 2 miles to work and back do not help, as the car does'nt warm up properly hence still running a little rich this may be why.
In short to prevent this and damage to your Cat (by not warming up properly) get on yer bike you lazy git!! :D

I have the same prob on my Sei although it is modded which does'nt help i'm averaging 25ish mpg on Optimax.

Being interested in a Dynamic, your experience is not good news for me. My current Punto 8v petrol averages 51mpg, and has a 480+ mile range. Both figures I like and have got used to living with. I could go down the diesel route, and it makes sense with that kind of difference (As opposed to a Punto diesel @ 60mpg, which I reckon you have to drive for 40k before you break even to the petrol @ 50mpg). All adds up to me keeping my 3yr old Punto for another few years!

Last summer I had a 1.6 Dynamic and then a 1.2 Active as hire cars. The 1.6 seemed to drink a respectable ammount, the 1.2 was very thirsty!

I do think the short journeys with a/c on are killing the consumption. I hope it gets better with the more miles I put on.

The computer was displaying an average of 28mpg when I calculated 22 mpg. Ditto for when I calculated 27mpg. So it doesn't seem too far off.

Would be interesting to work it out for a motorway journey.

the discrepency in the reading for the mpg could be due to your 17's i believe the standard wheel on the stilo range was 16's with the top end cars getting 17's - whats the bets the onboard computer is setup with 16's in mind? would affect your speedo reading too. altho my dads speedo reads 5mph slow @ 70mph (when the speedo says 70mph he is doing 65mph) so i might be wrong...

I had not considered that! MMMMmm...

Turn off the A/C... will see... the consumptions will become into normality...

I'm also with Donz... 17" alloys make worse consumptions... but the cause No.1 for me it's the A/C!!!...

You guys should think yourself lucky.

I mainly use my Stilo Arbarth to go eight miles a day back and to work from home.
I'm getting 13.8 miles to the gallon. Want to swap?

Double decker buses do 11 mpg

That's rediculous. How does the car run? Surely that's too low and something is wrong?

Just used up another tank of petrol. This time I didn't use the air con...

27 mpg

Go figure!

I accept no responsibility for anything contained in my posts, or any decisions you make based on them.

My car does the same at a steady 80-85mph it will return 27mpg which imo is poor from a modern car. 5 years ago I used to have a Vauxhall GSI 2000 which returned 34mpg.???

Spint Blue Abarth

I'm stuggling to get 30 mpg, driving very carfully on my 20 mile journey home from work. I got 29 -30 in my 7 year old 1.8 escort, driven quite hard.
Also... why would the 17's affect he mpg? You have the correct size tyres, don't you? Surely if the outside diameter is the same then the speedo and mpg will not be affected?

Just came back from holidays.
here are the data that I have collected after 800 km of motorway driving.

Average consumption 6,8 lt per 100 km
tha A/C tends to increase the consupmtion by 0,2 - 0,3 lt per 100km

That translates ( after multiple and multicomplex complicated mathematical equisitions :p)

22.7 mpg for the consupmtion of the 1,2 active Stilo on the motorway.

0,2 mpg of consuption increase for the A/C

no further comments.

oups sorry I meant 0,02 mpg for the A/C increase!!:D
