I'm thinking of upgrading from my really great Panda to a 500x 1 litre Firefly..
What are the best fuel consumption figures, from these engines?.....
I have gone back about 15 pages on this 500x thread and cant see any articles, which surprises me a little.

Thanks.

Generally there seems to be no discussions on fuel consumption. Possibly for the older 500X models but not more recently on the Firefly 1.0 model.

The only official, checked but still probably manipulated figures are those on other auto media car and manufacturer web sites.

Figures posted in forums like here I take with little reliance. I've seen vastly varying figures which never match my figures. For every car I've had since my 600D I've kept a log book of every fill-up with both gallons/litres and price paid. So full life long MPG for every vehicle. These figure I trust! Everything else is at best correct but more likely manufacturer spin (based on formal test that bear no resemblance to real daily reality) or users not being meticulous in their data. e.g. was that what the car told you or was that a long term accurate brim to brim filling and recording?

You should be able to compare the official doctored numbers between the two models to see what difference there is.

and you'll know the Panda real life consumption from experience .... gauge it from those figures.

Are they both NA engines?

I use mine for mostly longer distance trips on the motorway, and I tend to drive like a grandad (around 62mph with the Cruise Control looking after the speed).. According to my Trip computer, over 27,000 miles I have averaged 44mpg.

The absolute best I've ever seen was 51mpg.. but that was doing 50 +/- mph through long sections of speed limits.

Generally the best is around 48 mpg, such as when the whole tank of fuel is spent on the motorway.

If you like going faster (e.g. 70-75 mph) then you'll see 40-42 mpg.

If you're driving it in town, or heavy traffic, or hilly terrain .. and you use big throttle and (accelerating) lots of boost.. which peaks early on the Firefly engines... then fuel consumption can easily slump to 32-36mpg.

I haven't tried the turbo version, the NA 1.0 Firefly 500C I hired had very little torque compared to my 1.2 Euro4 Panda, needed working quite hard and was thirstier on mostly rural b-road driving.

I can believe that.. off boost mine is really sluggish.. but the turbo makes you forget that it's just a 1.0ltr engine powering it all.
At least the 500C variant shouldn't suffer from serious engine problems .. it probably only creates half the load that the engine was designed to deal with.
