Can anyone tell me what the average fuel comsumption is on a Uno 1100 and a Uno Turbo.

Is there a huge difference in numbers? I know there are alot of factors to consider, but im trying to see if I should get a 1100 Uno or a Uno Turbo.

Thanks guys:D

well, obvously the 1.1 is gonna be cheaper to run, by so many options, but it depends on your wallet, im guessin a UT will do around 30mpg if that where as the 1108cc will do about 45mpg, depends how heavy your foot is, but the UT isnt the most reliable car on the road, over heating issues turbo issues, and the engine is ancient technology now and parts don't come cheap, read the uno thread for a little more details.

Thanks for the reply dude!!! I'm from South Africa so I dont know what mpg means. can you explain? thanks

ancient?! we're not talking chariot of the pharoahs here!!!! the engine block may be based on a 50 year old design, but its farsightedness, made it strong and very desireable for the purpose of tuning and turbocharging, placing in a small, light, modern for the time and still pretty body. even today, a half knackered, interstellar mileage example like mine will hold it's own against todays warm hatches, and certainly in fiats current lineup, there's nothing that will embarrass it. coupled with a total lack of any driver aid/hold ups like abs/abd/traction control etc, it does what you say, when you say, if you stack it, or perfectly nail a corner, it's down to you, not the preprogammed, fuzzy logic box of tricks that decides.

parts? yes some are overpriced, but those are generally from people on ebay looking to hike up value for no reason other than to line their own pockets, with a little research, items like discs and pads, suspension, engine ancillaries are very reasonable. although i've have many issues with unos, and tubs in particular, it's very very rarely been down to the actually engine itself. from the humble sub one litre, up to the 1301 N/A and turbo, the internals are solid and respond well to being thrashed up and down the range.

very well said JAi!!! (y)

as far as 80's hot hatchs went it was probably the LEAST problematic!! thanks to its simplistic design!

fuel consumption, erm 30 on the combined, (combined thrashing and motorway) got mine to OVER 45 on a 200mile trip, twas on the motorway going a fair pace faster than I do in my 1.2na punto (which would have only done 35mpg at those speeds).
and around 30-35mark for normal day to day driving (not boosting it much)

Ok thanks for the replies guys. So on average how many miles or kilometers would you get out of a tank of fuel in a Uno Turbo?

In my mom's 1100 Mia she get between 450 - 500 Km's (280 - 310 miles) per tank of fuel. Normally fill up to about 35-40 liters (9-10 gallons)

My 1 litre averages 36mpg on the motorway and 40-43mpg just driving around town. On most cars its the other way round, but I tend to drive between 80 and 90mph on the motorway so it really drinks it.

@stealthstylz What Uno do you have?

Something that Jai didn't point out about the 'ancient technology' of the Uno Turbo is that it is a multi-point injection system (one injector for each cylinder), which is more than can be said of the much newer 8V Punto models. Also I think the engine block dates back to 'only' 1969 ;) But, of course, there are many changes.

I can't really think of anything 'ancient' about the Uno Turbo that holds it back compared to some modern development. Maybe not-having variable valve timing or variable-induction-length, both of which aren't relevant to a turbocharged engine? Meanwhile, Ford were still putting a pushrod motor into the Ka about ten years after the Uno Turbo was made (and 30 years after the SOHC FIAT motor made its debut in the 128), so surely that deserves the 'ancient' comment more? Maybe even the Uno 903cc deserves an 'ancient' comment since that had a pushrod motor - but FIAT came up with the goods by 1986 with the FIRE.

The Uno Turbo has a thoroughly-engineered (witness the oil cooler, piston underside spray-jets, water-cooled turbo, even an injector cooling fan though most are now removed!) and tough little engine. I actually think it is the most reliable of the Unos, not for its simplicity, but because of the quality of the engineering. Stuff is just bigger and better than on the other Unos - e.g. the ignition ECU is a proper mapped type with crank/flywheel sensors, not some little finned box on the distributor, the alternator is bigger and stronger, with an air-cooling duct, and the radiator takes up the full width of the air intake. I reckon the development engineers pulled out all the stops and fitted the parts that were kept out of the other models to save money!

I get an average of about 32-35mpg out of my Uno Turbo, with as much as 53mpg averaged on a long and gentle trip. When the economy is that good, you have to measure it against the performance available and consider the depreciation cost (loss in value each year) of other newer, possibly more fuel-economic cars. To me, the Uno Turbo seems an economical car when you get 0-100 in under 8 seconds and you take into account that it's hardly losing value at all these days.

Thanks for the reply. If you compare an 1100 Uno and a Uno Turbo's fuel consumption, would you say there is a HUGE difference between the 2?

I know there is a lot of factors to consider, but im talking in general.

well, my 1108 fire carburated uno, runs 32km/l :Dat 130km/h on motorways, on city about 20km/l, but here the road don't have to much climbs, so i can't compare with some of you.:slayer:

Geewizzzz... wish i could get that out of my Uno Mia 1100, having problems since i took her for a service about 3 months ago, my uno has been costing me Thousands these past 3 month..... i get about 6km's on a litre if i drive nicely... replaced the fuel pump about 2 weeks ago and my timing was set... but still, my fuel consumption is very high.

any advice on what it might be?

Taking my Uno to another guy this weekend to check it out
