Fuel additive to clean injectors?

I have a 1.6 16v brava and would like to ask the forums advice on the best fuel additive to clean out the injectors.
Anyone?

To explain a little further, most modern petrols carry detergent agents which should, in theory clean the injectors as you go.

I have always found Redex to be quite good, but it causes quite a bit of exhaust "fumes" as it burns off.

Redex is basically kerosine. Even if you soak an injector in pure redex it won't clean it.

If it's "basically" kerosene, what else does it comprise of and why does it not clean injectors?

It also contains naptha (mothballs) and a few other things in very small quantities.

People use parafin/kerosine to clean engine parts. But anyone who has tried soon discovered how poor it is at shifting engine grime and usually resorts to petrol.

Petrol is a far better solvent than kerosine.

As I said, try soaking an injector or valve in neat redex and see just how little it cleans it.

They can put stuff in petrol that is illegal to sell in halfords and in some cases even illegal to use in a chemistry lab.

The smoke you see is the kerosine burning.

Redex is prob best and cheapest method, Treat 2 tanks £2.50ish in Asda.

My sister is currnetly working for the company which develops the addatives to all the major petrol manufacturers and redex etc. So millions of pounds of reasearch go into development of these products. And they are slightly more complicated than kerosine. You only need ppm (parts per million) to make a difference!

After all the manufacture of MMA substituents from ethylene and methanol only takes 30ppm of a paladium complex to make it from a mixture to a completely new chemical.

Or for the unscientific way you could dismantel your engine, remove your injectors and poke them with a stick! Then use fairy power spray to remove all that 'burnt on grime' ;)

Well thanks guys (especially mountainmachine, good clear reasons to dig in my pocket).
I'll pop out tomorrow, get some and try it......can't hurt and got to be better than the engine sounding like my father in the morning hehe.
As for the verbal fencing, don't mind a joke but hell! Don't let this forum get all americanised for christ's sake. We're supposed to be all friends together not lone gunmen taking shots at each other in other peoples threads.
Life's too short, just try and get along.

Yup sadly i cant get free samples of the addatives, although my sis has then lying around the lab in concentrated form. Although just after i bought my Bravo HGt she tells me her company were offering Audi A3's brand new for about 9K whith comps etc in them and free fuel and additives of course, and servicing etc!

I would have went for it like **** off a shovel! But she didnt tell me until it was too late!

I might have bought both! As there would be no running costs for the Audi! Although would have been tight for a good while, although am sure not having to fork out £50+ a week in petrol would be a nice break!
