I am a new proud owner of a 00 multipla petrol. It has been a very pleasant experience so far, but with a couple of minor issues to solve.

Both ball joints on the front lower outer wishbones have broken dust covers. I have not found these as spare parts, only the complete wishbone assembly. Does anyone know if the ball joints can be found and replaced reparately?

The Multipla is also fitted with reverse sensors, but these are malfunctioning and give of a rather anoying constant beep as soon as the car is put in reverse.

Glad to hear that you like your Multi.

You can buy the balljoints separately, but going by the comments of others on the forum it's not always an easy job to get the old ones off. The wishbones are easier to source than the balljoints.

Add to that the fact that the complete wishbones are an easier job to replace (but still need patience!) and in the process you will also renew the wishbone rubber bushes and main bearings - a common failure on Multis, then to me it makes more sense to replace the complete wishbone.

There's a UK trader on ebay selling the wishbones for under 30GBP and they will deliver to Sweden for about 28GBP for the pair. Have you tried looking on ebay for something closer to home?

As for the parking sensors, if you find out how to cure this, let me know - mine do exactly the same thing! It's probably an earth fault in the back of one of the sensors, but I've never been bothered enought to sort mine out. If you reach behind the bumper you can feel the back of the sensors. Once you've removed all the mud and crap that coats them, it's possible to twist them so that they pop out of their sockets. Then it's a lot easier to check them over.

Parking sensors work on the same principle as bats navigation, i.e. they send out a series of clicks which echo back.

Stick the car in reverse with the ignition on and you should hear clicks from the sensors, you'll find a kneeling pad useful as the clicks aren't very loud; usually the one not clicking is the faulty unit. (Worked for me)

Eliminate the wiring loom by swapping sensors and checking if the fault moves with suspect sensor or stays with the loom.

Fiat sensors are about £60.

Thank you for your responses.

The complete wishtbone setup is about 150 Euro here in Sweden. This is prices from a place that usually have good prices. Ill check ebay. Anyway it seems like a good idea to change the complete assembly wile at it.

I will check out the reverse sensors tonight. A faulty ground seems likely. I have had some other minor electrical issues that all have been ground related.

I have had my 2000 multipla for 15 months now, and has proved to be the most reliable car I have ever owned in 46 years of motoring... stick with it, and its little problems. and it will treat you well. repairs are peanuts compaired to other makes.

Aftermarket reversing sensors on Multis, fitted in the accessible area of the rear bumper tend to be pointing either straight outwards or even slightly downwards. This means the 'beam' reflects off the road surface too close to the rear of the Multi and gives a false signal.

If you look at factory-fitted sensors on other cars, they point slightly upwards to avoid the problem. I know this to my cost, as I spent quite a long time carefully fitting sensors to my Multi only to have to keep them disconnected!

I've just recently scrapped my Multipla - God rest her soul. She was a faithful little lady who was a joy to drive.

I'd bought a whole bunch of spares just before she gave up the ghost, and I hadn't got around to fitting them. I'm therefore now looking to get rid of them. I had planned to redo the entire suspension system rear and back, so have the following parts for sale:

1. 2 x front wishbones.
2. 2 x rear tailing arm bearing kits
3. 2 x front drop links
4. 1 x handbrake cable

Can't remember if I also ordered the anti roll bar bush kit (I'll need to rake through the box again).

I'm based in Dundee Scotland, if you're local. I can also post the bits to anyone who's interested. I bought these items from the main sellers on ebay, but I held onto them too long to be able to return them. All are completely new etc.

If anyone is interested them email or p.m. me. I'm at work just now, so don't have alot of time but I'll probably be listing these in a separate post with prices etc. Ideally, I'd get rid them all the bits together for a low low price, since they are no longer useful to me.

Bought a damn volvo s80 to replace the dead fiat and now wish I didn't, since it has a crappy dead throttle body which is going to break the bank to replace. I've not had much good luck with cars this past few months, and to make matters worse, the ignition barrel on my motorbike just broke yesterday.

Public transport sucks...

Thanks for the tip regarding Paracoon. A lot better prices even with the freight cost included.

I checked the reverse sensors yesterday, and they are all clicking fine. They also seem to be mounted at a reasonable angle and shoud not be affected by the tarmac. This morning as I reversed out of parking they worked fine and has been working all day. I guess I will have to wait for them to malfunction again before carying on the troubleshooting.
