Technical Front Suspension Knock

I too have suffered the knocking noise on my TJet150 sport. The dealer identified the some of the under floor plastic protection parts had come loose which they fixed and the sound then went. However it has just reappeared after 6 months so I'll be back to the dealer son for them to have another look.

My sport is going into the dealers on tuesday to see if they can sort my knock out

Its getting louder, i can now hear it over the radio in town

The service manager said he was driving their courtesy car the other day and was looking in the glove compartment for something knocking on that car LOL:D

Told him about the drop links so he is investigating with Fiat

Mines also knocked from new, and i honestly just have not had time to get it sorted. but will be interesting to find out what it is!!

Just a quick one tho, for those guys that have lowered there cars with new shock's and spring's do you this same knocking ????

Im wondering if it's the same as the grande punto's where they have a knocking noise very similar and thats from the stoppers on the front shock's

Try this. Jack up one side, Look at top of shocker, pull down bump stop can be tight, grease the top of it and push back up to the top. Noise seems to have gone for me, have a go.

Car went in today and my missus picked it up

They could find no noise but then again it was bone dry here but then came the jewel in the crown

the fitter says to the missus

"Its a characteristic of the car, they all do that"

not on my brand new car it doesn't,

Been onto the salesman and its in his hands for now but im not going to accept that, no way

edit: took it out tonight and guess what no knock till i was almost home and then only a very slight knock

What did they do in looking for a knock? or did thye grease the bumpstop?

I have the same problem only with RAIN from the first day!I have change front absorbers and top-mount set and the problem still stay.Look something else.

I work for fiat but keep forgeting for them to have a look at it.
Mine happens when its wet, sounds like drop links but i dont think so.

Hopefully i can let you guys know very soon going to speak to the DET.

Took mine to TJ Vickers in Telford and they have diagnosed this as Anti-roll bar, So have agreed to change that and the drop links.

Well I think I am going to call the dealer today as I really don't enjoy hearing that knock, it really doesn't sound good!!

There is also an annoying squeaking from the passenger side door panel but I cannot identify which part it is coming from, anyone else had this (I am sure that will be an easy fix!)

Edit: Just realised I didn't actually ask what I meant to...has anyone had a definitive answer about what the knocking could be? There are many suggestions on here ranging from drop links to anti-roll bars to timing belts!? Just so I can speak to my dealer armed with as much info as possible.

Cheers,

Tim

Skimpy Fiat wont own up to anything concrete as yet but

1 person has had their drop links changed and its gone

1 Is going to have his anti-roll bar and drop links changed, so no outcome yet

1 guy has greased the bumpstops on the front suspension and that has helped also

Everyone seems to say it needs to be wet to get the knock and a panda owner says they had a problem knock which turned out to be water superheating on the exhaust

Im off to my dealer now and he says he will change the drop links to see if it helps

Well I went to the garage, and the outcome was...

- Mechanic took it for a test drive and heard the knocks so brought it back to the garage

- It was then put on the ramp and they had a look, his reasoning (for now) is that as it has the bigger wheels and the stiffer suspension, the bushings are still pretty tight and it could be them that are knocking.

- But he has said give it 500-1000 more miles (I have done 800ish so far) and if it hasn't stopped take it back and they will take it apart and see whats going on.

- He noticed the squeak on the door and apparently its a common problem that the door seal rubber is very 'dry' so when the doors are closed and the car is moving about they squeak together, causing that infuriating noise!! So he had some 'door seal grease' which he put on and after a mile or 2 of it being worked in, gone!! Amazing!!

Garage is W.B.Cowan just outside of Edinburgh, couldn't fault their service through ordering -> delivery -> this.

Just have to wait another 1000 miles and we'll see if anything comes of it. Keep us updated it you are getting bits replaced.
