OK...probably a dumb question for my first post here! I'm looking to buy a 1970 500F which is not yet UK registered. Once I get the reg number from DVLA and get the plates (7 digit) - how are the front plates attached to the car? Rear hopefully no problem as I know the car has the four corner mounting holes. At the front I could only see a couple of small holes in the bumper which I guess could be used but looking at photos of other 500s the plates seem to be mounted below the bumper but I can't remember seeing any mounting/brackets under there when I was looking (car not bought yet otherwise I would have another look!). Any advice (and photos) to help a newbie gratefully received.

A couple of little right-angle brackets will suffice. As you say, they bolt to the underside if the front bumper, and then to the back of the number plate. Where about in the UK are you? Always good to know, because it may be that there is a Forum member close to you.

Thanks for the reply. Are there specific brackets or do you just drill your own holes in the bumper and reg plate? If so, do you treat the holes in any way to delay any rusting as much as possible? Sorry for the questions (I feel there will be plenty to come... :) )
I am in Cambridge by the way (have added to profile for future reference).

Hi Andrew, my car has always had the front plate fastened directly to the front panel and that wasn't unusual when they were first on the road. I don't know about reproduction panels but mine has four tiny holes presumably intended for self-tappers withe little Italian plates.

This is what my ones have, couple of brackets and a stamped plate.

Thanks for all the pictures and help. If I buy the car it looks identical to the photo of the yellow 500 posted by HA (albeit white not yellow!!). So how is that number plate attached?

It's Steve ;), and yes I live in Cambridge, so you are welcome to pop by if you want to look over anything etc.

As per explanations above, it's simply held on by two L shaped brackets and bolted to the underside of the bumper...
