Hi just wondering can anyone recommend good speakers for the front doors, think they are 5 x 7's and the only ones I came across where pioneer custom fit ones which seem to be crap, only 80 watt max. Can I put 13cm round ones in handy enough, and do you have to take the whole sleve off to get them in?
 
Have a word with Amit about door speakers.....also about removing and fitting them :) I just replaced Fiat door speakers with better Fiat door speakers and it was a pain in the arse - door handle off, electric window unit off, trim panel off, protection thingy off, then bend and twist a few things etc etc

You can put any size you like in reality.

I had the pioneer jobbies for a while and was disappointed. They are better than the Fiat ones but if you are running straight of HU then they are not brilliant.

I've since changed to MB Quart RSD 213. Once again of the HU they are not spectacular but of an amp they sound a whole lot different and it brings them to life.

Get yourself an adaptor ring from 5x7 to 13cm and you should be able to fit.

As Gaz said, you need to remove door handle then outer cover then plastic crap and fit.

If you dynamat as well then this will make the sound a lot better

JBL do a 5x7 speaker thats pretty good, but your best bet is to get the adaptor plate from either Fiat or Halfords that will allow you to fit some 13cm speakers.

Thanks a mill think I might leave them in for a while and just connect an amp to the 6 x 9's i have on the back shelve and put in a bass box and I might change them after that. It seems an awful amount of hassle just to change them

I've just fitted some 220W 3-way 6x9s on my parcel shelf connected to a separate amp. I also have two 250W 10" subs in the boot powered by another amp. The sound in my car is unbelievable now, however you'll find you will need to replace the front speakers with some decent ones at some point, as the sound is unbalanced in the car.

I would recommend getting some 13cm as suggested by Si though, it might take a bit of messing about, but will be worth it in the long run.

If you check out www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/forum you will see the common conseception about 6x9's and bass in the boot is get rid of the 6x9's.

I had 6x9's on a parcel shelf as well, but someone on the forum told me to disconnect and then listen.

I must admit that the bass response is much better. See the 6x9's woofer will cancel out some of the sub woofer and you will not get good bass response.

The other reason for doing this is sound staging. The idea is if you go to a concert you tend to hear the voices from the front and bass will normally boom around you.

In car audio competition they look and sound staging which will count towards the sound quality.

Just my two pennies worth, obviously you don't need to take any notice. I've still got my 6x9's they are just disconnected.

I personally think it depends upon what kind of ICE setup you have exactly. I fitted my subs before fitting the 6x9s, I found that after I had put the 6x9s in, it sounded a hell of a lot better after a bit of messing around with the equaliser settings, and headunit settings. But obviously this would depend on how powerful your speakers/subs are, and how they're amplified. Theres no real answer to it all, its depends on how you want it to sound in the car.

Nothing special just yet mate. Got a pair of 220W 3-way Sony 6x9s on the parcel shelf, custom built bass box with two 250W 10" subs in, both running off separate amps. Then I've got a CD changer and equaliser in the boot too. Replaced the rear speakers with some Pioneer 100W 13cm speakers, just need to uprgade the front speakers now. Sony black panel headunit.

At the moment MB Quarts ( 13cm ) up front without crossovers installed and not amped at the moment.

MB Quart 6x9's in the parcel shelf but disconnected.

Fusion Powerplant 10" DVC 350w RMS in custom boxed tuned to 40hz, connected to a Kenwood amp.

The amp is running about 200rms at the moment, but i'm going to use this to power the front speakers and get a class D amp for the sub.

The Fusion sub should be able to take about 900w RMS according to Fusion themselves.

Did previous had two Sony 10" but they didn't seem that loud. The Fusion certain makes up for it and is easily double to volume of the 2 Sonys.

The trick equipment in all this is the headunit. Pioneer 9400MP. Trick because its got 13band Equaliser, DSP, Time Alignment and lots more, really does sound good, then it should do for £600

I got the replacement 5x7 JBL front speakers from Halfords too. They're a lot better than the originals, although they don't fit into the recess - but the door panel goes back on fine so it doesn't matter.

If you lift up the front dash grills and disconnect the tweeters it sounds a lot better too, they're shite.

Apart from that I have Infinity 6953i 6x9s on the back shelf, a Kenwood 3021 headunit and two Sony Xplod 10" subs running off an Xplod 760W amp. I want some bass cutoffs tho for the 6x9s and front door speakers, cos there's distortion above volume of 30 on really bassy songs.

Funkcle is it the 6932 sony 6x9's u have cos thats the babys I have. I got the sony black face radio 2 but I aint too impressed with the sound so I was looking at a couple of amps today, dont have a whole pile of cash so I was looking at a blaupunt one. Is your back shelf rattling like mad now its really annoying, is your 6x9s coming straight off the headunit of do u have an amp? which one?

Yes Cathal those are the ones I have. They're not top of the range speakers, but with regards to value for money, they really kick out the sound quite well. My 6x9s are powered by a 450W Boss amp, bought it off a mate for £50 at the time which was an absolute bargain!! If yours are running from your Sony headunit's internal amp (which it sounds as if it is) then I strongly recommend buying a separate amp for them, you'll find its well worth it. Any amp should do the job so long as its powerful enough.

Haven't had any trouble with my shelf rattling since the installation, but you can always get round it by sorting out a stealth shelf which is what I might do soonish anyway. Which black panel headunit did you go for? Mine isn't as good as some headunits you can get, but I'm pleased with it and it kicks the sound out well enough for me, if you amp your 6x9s maybe this will change your mind....

funkle is right.

i got infinity kappa 6x9s (and kappa 5" for the front door) with an amp-ed sub. it sounded good but never gonna be as good without a proper amp for the rear kappas. a fairly cheap alpine v12 (about £120) sorted the 6x9's and i run the fronts from the head unit. sounds pretty much perfect now and didn't cost the earth!!

easy to do so enjoy it mate!

I got to the front door speakers it wasn't as hard a job as I taught. Looking at more audio stuff today stiff haven't bought anything yet but the fella in the shop is seeing if he can get me an adapter so I car put 16.5 cm components in the doors and put the tweeter in the dash, hopefully this works out cos they sound **** hot. so that boss amp you say is alright I saw one the other day for cheap and didn't know how good it is

I made my own adapters from mdf to mount 13cm components in the doors. It was very easy to do and i am 19 with no wood working experience. The MDF provides a great base for mounting speakers on too, nice and solid.

You could easily make adapers for 16.5 cm speakers, but i think you would need to cut into the door. It would be pretty easy to do, but i dont know if i would want to do that to my car.

If anybody needs any help making some adapters from mdf email me and ill see if i can put together a step by step guide.
