Bonjour,

just bought a new headunit have wired it up all ok.

Firstly which wires do i swap so the headunit keeps its memory?

secondly behind where the headunit goes there is very little space for wires the wires go down the side rather then down the back (if you get my drift. this is causing my headunit to sit an inch or two further forward then it should! ive tried electical taping the wires together and pulling them to one side when pushing the headunit in but alas no joy.

Question: the air vent grill behind where the headunit goes.... have looked in ye olde haynes manual but it doesnt mention how to get it out. is it easy? screwed in?
if i cna get that out i cna see where the wires are and more likely to rearange them so it fits?

if not, the plastic part a the back of where the headunit goes, can it be cut out? do we know what is behind there? may look like a bit of a pikey job?

cheers, maxim

They will fit with a push. I have managed to get mine in with all power/speaker wiring, 4 sets of RCA's (3 to amp, 1 Audio in), ariel and remote control connectors.

What head unit have you got? Have you got a pic of the wiring connectors?

Wires to swap are the perm live and the ignition live. Only needs to be done if the memory isnt keeping after the ignition is switched off.

re

as Wimmy said its red and yellow you swap, most newer headunits have bullet connectors you can swap easily.

and gettign headunit in was always an art form!! make sure everythgin that can come down the sides a bit is heading int right directions and pull as you slide it back, but if somethign cross' over behind you can never get it in! alternative to butchering the back is to make it do headunit can sit forward? means modifying a faceplate adaptor but few people have done it!

I would be interested to know if you get this sorted as my headunit is also sticking out about an inch or so too much. =[ its got this massive heatsink on the back, along with a big fuse box too. :\
When I had my Megane I had to butched the plastic behind to fit it in. (my headunit is an eltax 550 if you're interested)

ok cheers guys, its a ripspeed DVD player i managed to pick up cheap! so many connections at the back they all bulk up at the back!

il have a look and see what i can do!
