And Charlie's not scum!
So how would you describe him then?

Wasn't he released twice - yet he didn't like the taste of freedom and kept re-offending? - and yet you want him to be released again because the guy is a saint :ROFLMAO: - third time lucky and all that crap

As far as I am concerned, he can stay behind bars for good - and I wouldn't exactly want him ("scum") as my neighbour :)

AND NO, not a single thing you will say or show me will make me change my mind - sorted (y)

Fortunately no one really cares what you say, think or do!

Just read up on what happened when his last bid to be released failed.

Stripped naked, covered himself in butter and assaulted 12 guards. 4 of who were injured.

I take it back, he is not just scum, he is a loon too.
Less than a year ago this happened too.

It just goes to prove how little the general public actually know about his situation.
Fortunately the prison authorities, the parole board and the judges involved have ALL the details and are appropriately trained in making decisions of this kind.

As always John I respect your technical knowledge and your commitment to your role in the legal system. I wish I shared your confidence in the parole boards and some of the judges. Yes, judges don't make the law, but they do interpret it .

The problem is that people on the outside never get to see all the evidence unless they actually go to court and watch the case. We all - me included for cases i didn't deal with personally - have to rely on media reports. The purpose of a newspaper is to make a profit, headlines that say "the court got it right" will not sell many papers.

judges and magistrates have guidelines to follow but can deviate from them in exceptional circumstances. All sentencers must give the reasons why they imposed a particular sentence and, in the case of something outside the guidelines spell out why it was outside the guideance and justify the sentence.

All decisions of a court can be challenged to a higher court. The defence and prosecution can challenge the verdict or the sentence. When the people most involved with a case don't challenge a decision thats a pretty good sign that it was correct. Correct decisions may not be popular, but it is open to those who are unhappy to complain to their MP to get the law changed. Or to check the sentencing guidelines council website where they publish consultations for the public to comment. There are no consultations active at the moment but they recently finished one on burglary. As a result of public input to the consultation the sentences are going to be increased.

Ahh the joys of personally knowing the Prision Gaurds at HMP Wakefield that are Charlies personal guards

Not that they can tell me anything at all, i just know they look after him and say he's genuinely nice compared to everyone else in HMP Wakefield..

The term prison guard went out of use decades ago. Working on the wings in direct daily contact with prisoners there are Prison Officers and Operational Support Grades.

No prisoner has personal guards. There is too much chance of them getting overly friendly and relaxing the rules. Or of disclosing small pieces of personal information which, over a period of time with the same prisoner, would enable the prisoner to gain enough information to be able to ID the officers family and home address.
