I read on another forum that some of the impreza engines suffered from a design flaw on the oil pickup. It wasnt well supported and the oil pickup would snap off and drop into the sump, so the engine obviously would have no oil pumping around. Wonder if it was related to that problem?

Most N/A Subaru's end up like that because the WRX and STi versions have bigger oil channels and better pumps to assist pick up and flow around the engine in heavy cornering that they're built for. The N/A versions are for your Nan to collect her pension and go to the shops or library van in and never designed to be driven with such gusto.

The last N/A Wagon I saw with a failed engine was half way through an SVX transplant so it's not always a bad thing.

Tbf looking at the graphics it was probably thrashed to death...

That and there seems to be an odd correlation between those that think spending money on stickers and caliper paint is a good idea but think regular maintenance is a luxury.

I just painted my bravo's calipers. Does this mean my engine will explode? ;)

That depends, check your receipt does it also include any or all of the following? Disc brake effect drum covers, a dump valve simulator, anything with rip speed branding? Have you ever used a temporary spare wheel for more than a month while waiting on a set of 3 alloys from eBay cos you know its not worth replacing the tyre when you've got new wheels with legalish tyres on the way. Is your universal fit back box scraping along the road held on with zip ties?

If you answered yes to any or all of the above...then its probably beyond repair.
