Found a Stilo, all ready to buy it, then I found this forum :D

Hi everybody.:)

I recently found a Stilo, 55 plate dynamic 1.6 estate in bright red, 34,000 miles. 1 private owner who's name is on the log book, full fiat S/H 3 months warranty remaining

It looks like a brand new car, apart from 1 tiny pin dent in the door it's mint.

I beat him down to £3,500 then did a search on the internet and found this forum and a few reviews, does anyone have anything good to say about the 1.6 stilo, every review I read tells me to walk away

I also found a facelifted 2004 alfa 156 2.0 JTS for £4,000 but i'm to scared to even go and look at that one.:D

So should I walk away from the Stilo

you will find more people slagging the car off than giving it credit really, just because when its working no one really mentions anything about it...

bought mine with 20k on it, 1.6 52 plate 5 door

done 47k now and cant fault it... just a few probs... and thats it...

the 1.6 seems a hardy lump really... give mine plenty of stick, but to be honest if you can get a 1.9 jtd around the same price hold out for it.. better car in my opinioon

I doubt i'll find a 55 plate JTD in this condition for £3,500, I know what you mean about forums, you only go looking for them when you have a problem

are the later cars built better than the earlier ones ?

its a new model so all the problems are ironed out, and it sounds perfect at that price :)

only reason why most other places slate the stilo is because fiat dont give them money :D

my cars just passed 40k today relatively event free.

it has got a misted front headlight now though thanks to the rain and massive puddles

In my experience of reading this Forum I'd say NO.

Good service & owner history is critical to buying a Stilo and that's what you should concentrate on (same as most cars really)

If I'm perfectly honest I was quite shocked when I found this forum (as I think are many). First thing I did was to take out a warranty on the car (n)

Nearly three years later, I keep getting calls offering cheap warranty cover but now I know what to do - refuse them all!

Have had my JTD Dynamic MW for nearly 2 years, done 34k in that time, been to the continent a couple of times, loaded it up with everything a family of 4 could need and it still keeps going, now returning 55mpg.

Only issues were rear tyre wear caused by a faulty rear beam, replaced by Fiat under warrenty and a snapped spring. The garage that replaced it said he does at least one spring a day - Fiat, Ford, Peugeot, Renault - etc etc.

There are better cars out there and a lot worse but for the money - what could you get? a 15 year old BMW? A 10 year old Golf? 8 year old Focus. Nah, stick to the Stilo, show you are different.

Hi
I too have just bought a 55 plate and am loving it! (3door sporting though). I have to admit that many of the problems of earlier models seem to have been ironed out, I once owned a 52 plate JTD and it was a nightmare!! but it did not put me off coming back for more!:slayer:

52 plate stilo, hmmm faults ive had in 18 months of ownership

1 rear parking sensor....
cd changer packed up......
map sensor fault...

all other probs have be related to my actions :p

its very well looked after but by no means wrapped in cotton wool, if you fancy giving it a good amount of stick getting it right up the revs it just takes it all day,,

things that do let the car down though really are:

the seats materials can be crap depending what fabric you get...
they do creak somewhere :) mostly around suspension mounts..

the good thing with the 1.6 is that because it isnt the most powerful engine going, you have to give it some boot to get the most out of it... which can be rewarding :)

DO NOT BUY!!!!

i've had my 1.6 MW for just over 4 years and in the that time i have had to replace the following :

1 - battery

err - thats it

i mean, who does fiat think they are making me shell out £60 for a new parts over 4 years.it is a national disgrace and they should be banned from our shores!

:D:D

just keep it serviced and you'll be fine

Ill agree with most people on this thread, had my 1.6 for 16 months now and shes running very nicely! I think the key is to ensure she has been well looked after, had all the recall work done and cam belt change if needed!

Oooo an alfa would be nice too!
