forwarding email

I recently brought a blackberry curve 8520 and linked it all up to my hotmail account and facebook etc.......

However it is not possible to link it to multiple accounts in such a way that you get alerts. My fix for this is to get my university email (the account I want alerts for) to forward new messages to my hotmail account.

But hotmail doesn't like my uni account, I click the option on hotmail to link the accounts and enter my email address and password and get an error about pop3 settings: not at a computer atm so can't post the exact message.

I know a lot of you attend staffs uni and its a staffs uni account I'm trying to forward, has anyone acheived this or know another way around it?

Im not sure how staffs uni works, but at Sheffield we use Gmail as our email client (for the uni address) they way I got round it was actually forward it from the uni email rather than trying to link it from hotmail. That way your emails get forwarded regardless.
