have i got them ? haven't read me user manual as usall

you may have dave, hold the main beam headlight stalk for a few secs, it should activate then, then each pull on the stalk will add 30 secs to the length of time they stay on for, i think maximum is 3mins

to turn them off hold stalk for a few secs again

I think they're on all mk2's? On mine you don't even need to hold it, just flick it towards you after you turn the engine off (ie high beams) and that's good for 30 seconds.
As for their usefulness, I guess it just depends where you park it. For me, I use it every time I pull into the garage in the dark, saves getting out the car and fumbling round to the other side where the lightswitch is in the dark. Not something to pay extra for really but quiet handy nonetheless.

just went out and done it  yep ive got them thanks :)

oooo my well posh bet coops not got that :p

Never tried mine, since I've never parked facing where I'm going. So I'd forgotten they were on the car, could be worth trying out when my Punto is back from the repairers...

Do you have to hold the stalk for a fwe seconds every time, or does it rememebr you use the functionality?

For now I have a courtesy car, a 54 reg Polo 1.2E :(

Once you have turned the engine off, just a single pull (as if flashing 'main beam') of the stalk keeps the dipped lights on for 30 seconds. No need to hold it or anything like that. As has been said, give it 2 quick 'flicks and it stays on for 60 seconds, 3 flicks 90 seconds etc.

I find it useful when putting my car in the garage so that I don't have to leave the engine running to see what I am doing.

Also, did you know you can leave side-lights on for parking even with the engine switched off?

You will notice there is a small black piece of plastic at the lower side of the ignition barrell. Put the key in the ignition, press this piece of plastic in and then turn the key the OPPOSITE way to how you would start the car (counter-clockwise). You will notice the lights simble in the instruments is now displayed. Et voila; Parking lights. You can now remove the key as normal and the lights stay on (y)

I discovered them by accident and I am not sure they are in the manual. I think it is the same on all modern Fiat/ Alfa models.

That's so funny.

I recall the 'follow me home' thing in the brochure but just assumed it was only some models.

He he - after 18 months and didn't know that my Mk2 had that feature!

I recall when my Punto was delivered the guy (not a Fiat emplyee, I got it from a supersite, and he was a driving instructor who helped deliver cars when he had no lessons!) told me about the parking light thing. I've never tried it. I do like the way the lights go on/off with the ignition, since I tend to have sides on all the time (having lived in Scandanavia and been in an accident where the other driver never saw me - statistically daytime running lists reduce the risk of an accident by ~5%). The courtesy Polo I have for a few days is like most cars on the road in the lights not being controlled by the ignition, which means I have to turn them off manually. How could I ever get rid of my Punto with all these great features...

Don't all cars have parking lights like that? I'm damn sure my old uno had them for starters...

Pretty sure it's not just Fiats either, I thought all cars had them! Never used them though, you're supposed to use them when parking on the road...

All cars do have parking lights, but the point with Fiats is, as Gav says, the lights turn off with the ignition.

Other than using the little plastic switch (as I described), there is no other way of leaving lights on with the ignition off!

I always get the 'lights buzzer' telling me off in the smart

I'd rather have full control of lights (i.e. can be off with ignition off) and have the beeper.

I suppose if you're death (don't hear beeper), hard of sight (don't see lights on dash) and forgetful it might be useful ;)
