Hi all,
May have over looked something while trying to save the Panda.
My punto will need a another wheel + tyre.
Mk1 1997 punto 55 s

In the shed i have a 13 inch wheel (y) great. Fiat wheel.
The tyre is 155/80R13 75T
The alloys on my punto and the tyre 155/70R13 75T

Offering this new wheel and tyre up to my car it looks about an inch taller than the current wheel.

Is this a huge problem. The car gets used for motorway driving.
A new tyre of the right size isn't too bad being a 13 inch wheel ~ £40.
The replacement tyre is a new Top End Continental eco jobby.

The aspect Ratio is the Percentage of the width = height.
I.e 155/70 = width 155mm height = 155*70 = 108mm
155/80 = width 155mm height = 155*80 = 124mm 16mm difference in height to 32mm total height difference. My question is what effect will this have on the car, would it be safe to use short term?

Hi, aside from the potential effects on the car's handling the use of a wrong size tyre would fail an MOT and therefore would mean you invalidate your insurance or at very least give them an excuse to walk away from paying out if you are unlucky enough to have an accident.

My rule has always been in car ownership that you never skimp cost on two things 1) Tyres and 2) Brakes they are your means of staying on the road and being able to stop if it all goes pear shaped your life is worth more than £40 for a tyre.

Thanks guys.
Insurance not paying out did cross my mind when i offered the wheel up to check sizes.
I'll pop down kiwck-fit to get a replacement tyre for the wheel.
Anyone need a recently new 155/80R13 75T Tyre? It just so happens i have one going spare:p

Are you made of money? Buy online, get local tyre place to fit it.

sadly by me kwick-fit is the ONLY local garage. all the others have closed down. So to save £6 on a single tyre, have to wait 3 days for delivery and then to either travel 15 miles to have it fitted or be refused to fit it at kwick-fit it's not worth the wait or the hassle really...:(

Although i may have upset the people working at kiwck-fit a while back. they wanted £180 to change the back box on my car.
I asked them to do it for £50 or i'll go else where. The look of shock on their faces:p. £50?!

they tried to convince me that the prices of car exhaust systems have gone up. I paid £40 for my exhaust in the end(y) fitted it my self. Without a ramp:bang:

Got crushed slightly but it was worth it:D £140 saving
