Matthew currently has a thread running - Fuel Warning Light - in which he is describing extra gauges he is fitting to his 500L. I have put together this circuit diagram and a simple description of how the gauges work to help Matthew in his task.
It is currently a theoretical wiring diagram but when we have finished it I'll update with specific instructions and parts list etc but if you want to use it in the meantime then feel free.

Richard,

thanks for this. Coupled with your other documents this is so helpful in so many ways. (My previous dealings with electrics was such that I was told that as long as I didn't let the smoke out all would be OK......)

Regards and thanks

Ditto - this will be very helpful. Thanks again Richard.

Despite your avowed allegiance to dodgy old British motors, if you keep this up you may be conferred with honorary Fiat ownership. It's a badge you will wear with pride :D

Though I have some knowledge about things electrical, for me it's still a bit of a black, but usually not smoky, art. I just don't understand how those little electrons know where to go.

In case anyone else is interested, I've placed a link to Matt's other discussion below.

Cheers dad, I knew one of the days you'd prove to be useful for something! :p

One minor point - I've got a 500F, not a 500L. Not sure if there are any major differences between the two models in terms of wiring, but I know the 500L has a fuel gauge, which the 500F does not.

I'm sure, Chris, that dad has a secret longing to own something with a Fiat badge, he just can't bring himself to admit it.

I bought a metal nibbler and some sheet steel today, as well as pinching my father-in-law's router, so I think tomorrow might be a fabrication day, unless the misses tries to get me to garden...
