Hi everyone

Was just checking over the car prior its MOT and found that several lights are not working. I’ve not done any electrical work to the car or moved cables so I’m unsure why things aint working. Below is a Summary of the issues

So with ignition on and dashboard switch in the lights on position and the steering column lever pulled 1 position

The front passenger (note its a left hand drive car as I live in Europe) headlight or side light does not come on, also the rear passenger light does not come on
When i then move the steering column lever down 1 more position then both headlights are in full beam but still no rear light on passenger side

I have checked all the bulbs and they are all good, check wiring and nothing obvious in respect of a broken wore.

The terminals in the fuse box look a bit discoloured but not what I would call corroded
All the indicators are working fine

Thanks

It could be corrosion on the contacts that touch the bulbs (or the fuses, or the switches). It could be a wire that has become brittle and snapped. One method for tracking down the problem is to use a multi meter. Check that 12V is present at the input to the light switch, at the output when the switch is on, at the input to the column stalk switch, and at its output, then at one side of the fuse, then the other, and finally at each bulb. Also check the earth from the bulb to the chassis.

Fuses and fuse box would be my starting point, as all 3 bulbs you mention not working share a fuse.

The lighting circuits use separate fuses for each side of the car, presume the idea was that if you blew a fuse you didn't loose all the lights at once.

So am I reading this correctly,
You adjust the steering column one position and then you get full beam.

If so check the loom under the steering column and also that all the plugs are in firmly, moving the steering position should certainly not affect which lights are working.

Go to the rear lights and with either a multi meter or test light, one lead ground to vehicle, (not in light unit) and other to bulb power , and test.
