Technical Fifth gear replacement

What is the significance of the blue and white paint on the old and new gears? Is this something to do with position when removed?

This paint is not important. You don't have to place those gears in specified position.

Parts shown on the picture are the only parts that you need. But it may be cheaper to buy whole gearbox than all the parts separately.

This is exactly the mod i am looking for, i have an 03 multipla with a 115 which has been chipped, it now needs another gear as i think it is revving too high at motorway speeds. I have had a quick look at eper and this gear set is fitted to punto and Brava/o the prices on eper are around £25 per gear so it may be better to get them from fiat. Looking at the other parts that were swapped ie in the picture they are all still present in the box that you would be modyfying so unless they are worn they should not need changing. Very good post thanks

Looking to give my Multi a thorough checking over in the next few weeks and one of the things on my 'To Do' list is this gear mod.

I've been on eper and got the following part numbers:
46767951 - 43 tooth gear (about £23 inc. VAT)
46464763 - 33 tooth gear (about £24 inc. VAT)
46530334 - Shaft nut (about £2 each inc. VAT; same nut for both shafts)

To anyone with experience of these things, do they look like the right part numbers? I reckon this is the most cost effective way of doing the mod (I don't happen to have an old Mk2 Punto 'box lying around), plus the bits will be new.

I get most of the web page and thread but the bit I ain't getting is do u need a doner box or could I take the multis one and switch and swap I had a 110 jtd chipped and it sat at 3000 revs at 65 mph that was a bad thing so does sound like a good idea

By the looks of things, you only need the parts I've listed. They are a straight swap with the standard Multipla 5th gearset and all the other Multipla bits are retained. Better still, because 5th has been 'stuck on', it's possible to change the gears over with the gearbox in place.

Some bad news though - I called my local Fiat main dealer today and the eper prices are well out of date. The 43 tooth gear is now about £51 inc. VAT and the 33 tooth gear is just under £40. Ouch.
