hi there new to this as i am at my wits end and hope sone of u fiat fellas can help me out i have the 1400 engine out of fiat uno it is now on a buggy tht i bought a few months ago to restore i have it all linked up and runing but smokes like mad thought this was just because engine had been lying for while so serviced engine new oil /filter/distributor/ rotor arm/ leads / plugs/ and started it up was fine then just started beein smokey and when reving the engine it sounds as if its misfireing am i ryt in saying either rings are goosed or is it my valves any help would b great as i can find another engine anywhere all i no is its the 1372 engine also can get hold of 1300 engine nut would gearbox of my 1372 fit the 1300 as they look quite similar any help lads would b gd and appreciated

say Hi in the Uno section too..,


pretty sure your 1400 is the same as the Tipo also used,
Crankcase breather blockages can cause the symptoms you describe


metal canister on front edge of block with a 13MM HEX bolt through centre and a hose going up to air filter,
undo the bolt and prise-off the cap of the canister.. it's a cast metal MAZE in there,
I've had 1 so full it was like a plant-pot in there - YUK,

had look in the oil breather its clean so need to check for sumthing else thanks tho

do 2 compession tests,
1st DRY ( plugs out) ,
the 2nd WET - (add oil to bores + plugs out)

if the numbers are all improved WET then you've got ring wear, ( expected..??)

if 1 is still really low then it's a non-sealing valve on that cylinder,
