Fiat are working on what it describes as "aspirational models with a premium feel". Their chief marketing exec has admitted at the launch of the 500X they can't rely on the small car market alone and need to start producing bigger cars again. It's widely believed the first will be the long rumoured Fiat- or Abarthed-badged sports that has been developed in conjunction with Mazda's new MX-5 although I thought they'd abandoned that (or was that just Alfa?).
It all sounds very promising and what we've been saying for a while now and then you get to the end of the article.
