Hi All,
The temperature gauge went into the red on my Fiat Tipo but I was nearly home so got to my driveway. When I checked under the bonnet there is a loose pipe. It looks like it has broken off. There is a pipe going from the coolant reservoir which joins onto a T shaped connector, the left hand pipe goes into the engine, the right hand pipe has snapped off on the connector.

Does anyone know what this piece is called so I can order it from a spares company?

Hi

Ideally you want access to the FIAT parts system..and get a proper part number

MisterAuto .. in europe.. do tend to list part numbers..

If you struggle.. either ask in the Tipo section.. not busy.. but a few knowledgable owners :)

Or contact ForgeMotorsport ( gloucester)

They sold hoses and joint for the older t.jet motors

Do let us know what you find

Update, no spares companies have the part I need so I had to contact FIAT direct. They have a diagram of the part on their system, however it is now one whole part, including the hoses! Replacing everything will make a 5 minutes job into a much harder one as I'll have to remove a lot of items, just to be able to get at the other end of the hoses, where as the connector is right in front of me! Additionally the local FIAT garage do not have a part No. for this item, so they contacted FIAT on 11/08/22. I called them today chasing and they said they haven't heard back from FIAT yet so can't order the part, quote a price or give a lead time for it.

Fortunately the engineer at my work, reckons he can fabricate a connector himself. I managed to remove the broken connector myself but not before the other side of the connector broke off. When I used a screw to remove the remains of the connector from the hoses, the plastic just crumbled.
Perhaps this is why it now comes as one premoulded part?

Final update, FIAT finally got back to me, the new all in one part is £95 plus VAT!! However, they couldn't order the part as there are none available worldwide and they don't know when they will be back in stock!

Fortunately my mate at work has come through and made a stainless steel replacement, which I've collected and fitted today.

Photos attached, the first one is of the broken connector in place, the second is the original connector, the black thing, which has two arms broken off, beside it is the new stainless steel version. Last photo is of connector fitted.
No apparent leaks, the coolant level has gone down but I expect their may be some air in the system so I'll top it up and keep an eye on it. 20220810_180235.jpg20220810_180247.jpg20220817_092035.jpg20220817_130109.jpg

We could all do with a mate like yours! Great solution, looks like it'll outlast the car! In the absence of a "proper" spare part - or a friend like yours - A troll round your local plumbers merchant or motor factor often results in alternative cures for problems like this. I also find my local Pirtek branch: https://www.pirtek.co.uk/service-centres/edinburgh/ often has solutions to problems like this as do Forth Engineering: https://forth-engineering.com/products-services/. Have a good look round your area for similar service providers you might find handy in future.

Thank you for this post, just a couple of weeks off a long drive and this has saved a lot of pain !, just got a whiff of coolant and my T-piece is crusty 😔, they're available on eBay in brass for 3 quid 👍,if you're wondering which hose it is look at the turbo and follow the top most metal line that then goes to rubber hose it's this hose.
