Technical fiat Stilo airbag warning

The orange ones on both sides are for the side airbags
My OCS is a white connector I think but yours may be different

Then there's the black one which is the "is seat belt fastened?" sensor

OCS is dealer only as far as I know, mind you get the seat base cushion as well. Perhaps you could get your passenger to chip in for it after all it's their brains and face that will be splattered all over the windshield if it doesn't work. I wonder if you'd be open to litigation if .....

I don't know, mine works so that's me sorted

Honestly IM a very good driver :D
I have taken the car to Fiat and they frightened me off by saying things like striping out the roof lining.

Its good your a good driver but is ewveryone else thats heading towards you!

Sounds as if the garage is giving you the worse possible secenario(which they often do), however if you were to just get the codes read then we could help.

anyone know where i can buy a new OCS mat? dealer wants 140 quid

did you read post #3

Why does the wiring for the side airbags go into the seat ?

Cos that's where they are:)

i qm hqving the same problem as well.Mine comes and go especially when i suddenly go into pot holes.I gave up now but my car heating is poor.it is so cold in that car.the voulume of the heater is on high and the heat come really really poor but the fan is not blowing.Do you guys rekon i shld het a blower or what ? can someone help please

I presume your intent was a joke

The warning system informs the driver that some safety features have been disabled (such as the the ability to judge the size and weight of the passenger to be used during airbag deployment).

It's the driver who's responsible if he/she constantly ignores these warning - and hardly Fiat

You say we are constantly ignoring the warnings. Surely the fact that so many of us have got the same problems regarding airbags its not just the ignorance of all us owners.
Mine is on constantly, regarding any passengers or not

tbh if you know its the OCS get another seat, or an emulator, if you want to eliminate the other possible flaws in the system, then someone on here has already found an alternative to the fiat connectors, there is also the more contravertial method of cutting off the connector blocks and soldering the cables together.

and there was a fiat standard fix for this, in the form of a cable tie around the connector, its dubious as to whether it actually works...

Finding the fault is easier said that done.
All the suggestions were leading me to the connections under the seat but I have cleaned and done all that has been posted and nothing.
like I said earlier fiat were even thinking of ripping my roof lining out FFS

to eliminate the under seat connections you could purchase the connectors that someone else has bought and tested, then you can be sure the connections are good, (there not expensive). dont forget the stilo needs some time for the codes to clear, not instant, i think its 3 clear starts? or a period of time with no faults?
then fiat diagnostics will tell you where the problem is, problem areas are :

-under seat in 3 dr more than 5 door but affect both
-on the flap in the lower glovebox
-rear seat airbag connectors

Thanks for that MZ
WHERE the hell are the rear seat ones??
Shows how much research I have done as did not know about glove box either
I have tried the rear ones above the parcel shelf in the coloums and the boot ones behind the
compartments above wheel arches

Yes; but you need to look at the problem in perspective.

I've never had an airbag issue on my 7 year old Stilo (other than when it warned about passengers turning/kneeling on the seat and once when I put a bottle of wine on the seat - which I actually found rather impressive (y)) and I'm sure there must be many others without any problems at all.

Many members who have experienced problems have been able to resolve them using advice from this Forum - and we know that from the number of thank you posts.

All problems are resolvable but they'll never get sorted by ignoring them!

Hello friends. At long last, after more than a decade of reading the *Forum*, I have decided to join. My motivation was the question marks hanging over Fiat electrics and in particular the Stilo Airbag Warning problem.

First of all let me make it clear after 40 years of almost continuous Fiat ownership, most of the models from my initial 500 onwards, they all have a little ‘happy’ Italian fitted as standard. He is to be found hiding in the main electrical distribution and relay zone of your motor. What he does is get rebellious if you start to treat your Fiat as just another motor/automobile – It is not, it’s a FIAT – Fine Individual And Terrific !!!!! Without a doubt the finest was the 130 Supermiafiorie 3.8 Twin Cam (I think I have that right) – A breathtaking and untiring workhorse, that for me would do Inverness to London and back in a day and many times! There was also the Croma TI, mine had alloy wheels, leather trim, metallic black paint and if I remember correctly, that twin cam engine only a little more active! Yes, I enjoyed the Tipo and then the Brava 100 TI(?) which carried us many miles a day across the continent. Without a doubt the Palio 127 would be ‘gem’ in my memories.

So now at an age when I should know better, I have the fabulous replacement for the Fiat Coupe, a car I also wanted but never really liked the rear end of in the late nineties. Today at seventy three years old I have a Stilo 3 door 1.6 Dynamic with ally’s, in metallic black with cloth trim. It is a remarkable motor, more so after the computer was remapped. However, surprisingly it also has a resident ‘happy’ Italian in the electric’s somewhere. My wife and I have experienced assorted warning lights over the last few years on motorways, cured by knocking the Fiat out of gear, turning the engine off, and restarting with the key. After that another 5k+ or more miles without panic messages.

Now to the Stilo airbag warning light. This started a few years ago just after we bought it. The first warning just bleeps and puts the message on the computer screen that the airbag has failed. Not which airbag, but one of the 6 !?! At this point press the mode button on the computer control buttons on the dash (Right-hand side) – It will return immediately to the normal day; date, time, mileage. Within 60 sec the alarm will go off again. This time it will included panic messages, such as stop engine and other hectic attitudes. Just press the mode button again and return to reality.

As you pass through the seasons of the year this fault will pass through its phases. Warning, then no warning for a few weeks then warnings again for a month or so, then no warning. It is performing just to keep you enjoying the individuality and fun of your Fiat. I hope you find this useful information, remember, most things can be put down to ‘Fiat Electric’s’! They have never changed over the years. It must be one of the weakness points in putting advanced and original ideas into their cars. They do and can get it right though, look at the Fiat Ferrari?

Now there's a die hard Fiat vet if ever I saw one:)

Have a look in the Stilo Guides up above for some solutions to the easier airbag warning fixes

Think of the "Airbag Failure" warning as an Airbag Circuit failure warning rather than a failure of an airbag

Another quick question! I am due to have a baby in a couple of weeks, if i can't get a new OCS mat fitted before the bab arrives can I just turn the airbag off using the key? In the event of a crash will the airbag still go off or not?
