Hi , i would like to ask you whats the best gear oil for the stilo, if you can i want you to point me out 2-3 best brands(or recommended ones) for it. (I want 2-3 because i dont know which one of them is available at my country)
thanks in advance.

Here's a couple:
Petronas Tutela technix 75W-80
Total transmission BV 75W-80

I rate Total products highly and they may be more easily available.
Alternatively any 75W-80 gear oil from a major company should be OK

Recommended oil is
Synthetic based oil SAE 75W-80EP that passes API GL5
This is extreme pressure oil (GL5)

Obviously these gearboxes are OK with extreme pressure GL5. When working on other cars always be careful of oil used. Some use GL4 (like my Toyota and Landrover) which is med pressure oil. The EP GL5 will destroy the bronze components in the gearbox. Some gearboxes use Engine oil (which uses a different SAE rating so don't compare the two) The SAE has a separate viscosity rating system for gear, axle, and manual transmission oils, SAE J306, which should not be confused with engine oil viscosity. The higher numbers of a gear oil (e.g., 75W-140) do not mean that it has higher viscosity than an engine oil. For example SAE 40 Engine oil is a common viscosity in gearboxes.

I use this in all my Italian cars, fwd and rwd, Fiat and Alfa.

That wasn't my point. If that is the correct oil for those vehicles then well and good.
Just taking the opportunity to point out that GL5 is not better than GL4. GL5 oil will attack bronze components in a box designed for GL4 (such as my Landrover). GL4 will not provide sufficient EP protection for a box requiring GL5 (such as the Stilo)

Alfa GT has done 250000mls now, and shifts like new, cold and warm.
Handbook requires GL5, but I get excellent results with Castrol Syntrans Transaxle GL4+.
Would be a perfect choice for a 2002 Stilo, no question.

And to be honest, I haven't got a clue what Alfa once prescribed for the GTV-6, long ago....
I own this car for 30 years now, and always have used the Castrol GL4+ in it's transaxle, with decent results.

A gearbox requiering GL5, will shift better with Castrol GL4+.
On the other hand, it's not wise to fill GL5 in a GL4 gearbox indeed.

No problem at all to go from 75W80 to 75W90, it's a VERY small difference, even 75W140 would do without problems ( ..W140 being the next viscosity level from ..W90).
In theory, a gearbox with somewhat more mls. , would benifit from the SLIGHTLY thicker viscosity a lot, look at my high milage Alfa f.i.

Viscosity isn't that important, quality is the key factor (and knowing what you're doing....:D).

I deleted my post on the GT as I was wrong, it has a C630 'box, I was thinking of the 159.

So you are a gearbox and lubrication specialist? Good that you know more than the gearbox manufacturer

I put tutella technix in my c630.. had it done as its never been done during the history before me owning it.

Stuff that came out looked like same stuff that went in... was clean too... seen worse come out of the m32.

Glad i have a c630 :)
