Technical Fiat Stilo 115hp JTD, whoosh sound when accelerating

Hi!

I'm from Finland and new to the site and I'm hoping to get some hints on the issue I'm having with my Stilo.

My car has started to make a "whoosh" sound on any gear when accelerating. The sound starts before 2000 rpm and it's not continuous, only when accelerating. Also, black smoke comes from the exhaust when whooshing.

I also noticed on the freeway 120 km/h, that when I'm driving uphill with cruise control on, it starts to whoosh in approx. 1 sec intervals like whoosh-whoosh-whoosh. Black smoke is seen on every sound and the car twitches back and forth a little. No sound is heard or black smoke down hill or on flat ground or when engine is idling.

Also, when I take the cruise control off, black smoke is seen for a second or two, but only when revs are over 2000 rpm.

Could the problem be with turbo or EGR valve?

lots it could be. Check the :


Map Sensor
Boost Solenoid Valve
Turbo pipe work for splits - look near the I/C behind the wheel arch
EGR - if not done, clean it by removal and check the solenoid - blank if there is a problem

Cheers Clivvy. It was the pipework - a hose which is coming directly from turbo had a hole in it.
