Hi, with the plugs warmed up grip the very top of the sparkplug cap with grips/pliers & tug, because their rubber they tend to grip very tight. Wait until plugs have cooled before trying to remove.

Your sparkplug spanner should have a rubber lining to keep the plug centred. But when you allow the spanner to tilt too much it leans on the insulator. Next time you may not be so lucky.

Go and get a proper socket set. When used with an extension bar this allows you keep the socket straight so you wont break the spark plug. Just in case it happens again, when the plug is loosened but still screwed in take off the spanner (socket) and check the plug is ok. If its broken, use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the pottery debris so it cant drop into the engine.

You can also use a bicycle pump (old type with rubber tube) to blow out any bits the vac wont take.

cheers... i was using http://argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7001837/Trail/searchtext>SOCKET+SET.htm . i thought that would be good enough. the spark plug socket was a bit crap as the rubber bit fell out (dunno whether this is common with spark plug sockets) but i managed to podge it back in.
it was probably me being a newbie and the socket may have not been straight and flush with the plug. if i get the other leads off i'll do them a bit better now i have an 'idea' of what i'm doing hehe.

cheers
Tom

They should be fine. Just use all the extension rods and keep the ratchet end of the handle above the plug. When you pull, dont let the ratchet end swing around and avoid using the flexible coupling.

Try some pointed pliers to pull the plug caps. Sometimes there is no other way but to pull the cable itself. If they get damaged you may have to replace them. Use some copper grease on the contact tips when you put them back.

Edit - Make sure you have the correct spark plug socket for your plugs there are at least three sizes in common use.
