Hi,
I've been looking at my son's car prior to the MOT as it has had the engine light on for a few weeks. Error code using multiecuscan software is P0226 - Accelerator Pedal Potentiometer. Code can't be cleared.

I have checked the electrical plug on the accelerator pedal and that is firmly in place. Also tried disconnecting battery for 15 minutes which has been suggested elsewhere but no change.

I'm assuming the cause is the sensor on the accelerater pedal. Is there anything else I can try?

If it needs replacing, can I just get the sensor or is it the whole pedal with sensor?

Also, if the sensor/pedal is replaced is there any software or process needed to reset the sensor?

Thanks for any advice.

always better to look at the live data. Assuming it doesn't smoothly rise and fall then yes likely to be the pedal

Someone had success by blowing out with a can of compressed air

You can prove it by disconnecting the connector from the pedal and monitoring the fault. On my 1.2 petrol I had P1221 which was the pedal. OBD monitoring did show differences between the internal pedal potentiometers.

I'll try blasting it with compressed air tomorrow and also check the voltages.

Well, I got the compressor out and shot compressed air in every area around the sensor I could find.

Currently no error codes showing and the P0226 error is gone.

Voltages between Track 1 and 2 were typically within .03 of a volt.

Big test is tomorrow when my son drives the 40 miles to work.

Thanks for the help.
