Fiat Idea head unit adapters wires don't match up

Recently purchased a fiat idea and decided to put a new head unit in it. I bought a complete fitting kit from eBay which included a harness adapter etc. I bought a new JVC head unit.

I have come to fit this and it has all gone ok, and when I connected up the power, the cd mechanism whirred, but the unit will not switch on. However, there is power getting to it as when I put in a cd the head unit takes it in but no display lights up and it doesn't play. Having looked at the wiring harness, the one which I assume carries the power etc on the car has only 4 pins with wires going to them, and they are a different 4 from those that are present in the adapter.

I'm not sure if the wiring in the car is standard, as two of the wires are the same thickness as all the other wires going to the socket, but two of them are much thinner. Has anyone had any experience of fitting a new head unit to the Idea and if so were the wires of varying thickness like this? I don't want to go changing them around to match up with the adapter harness if someone in the past has messed with the wiring in the car somehow.

I apologise if my knowledge of this is a bit clunky! If anyone is interested enough to ask questions to try to help, I will answer them as best I can!

You need 2 lives ar head unit, normally red and yellow, so join these together. The idea has no switched, +15v, ignition supply. See punto section for further info.

Thanks for the reply! There is no yellow wire to this part of the connector. There is a thick red, a thick black, a thick blue, a thin white and a thin black and pink.

According to the small diagram on the back of the original cd player, the other block is solely for the speakers. I've checked the adapter I bought and the sockets on the original car wiring don't match up with the ones coming out of the adapter. Maybe it is the wrong lead.

I have read a guide in the punto section on connecting the stereo to a switched live from the ignition I think, but the wiring doesn't appear to be the same as the punto one so it's not much help.

I'll try to upload the pictures of the wires that are in the car and the diagram on the old cd player.

If you're meaning in the big wedge of cables in the background, they are all speaker connectors. The front lot are the power cables. According to the diagram on the head unit anyway.

is there no wiring with the new head unit in the box? It's that part that you connect red and yellow together to get 2 lives to new head unit.
