Technical Fiat grande punto headlights not working correctly

Morning forum, first time on the forum so please be gentle. I have a GP 1.3 MJT 90 hp 5 door, the problem i have is that every time i put the lights on normal beam within seconds the long beam comes on by itself and it will not turn off, hence many frustrated drivers on the other side of the road cursing me. It's as though the stalk does not respond any ideas?

s you said it sound very much like a faulty stalk. Should be covered under warranty (1st and 2nd year) if your car is still new enough.
