I have a 1998 Kon Tiki motercamper on a 2.8td Fiat ducato.Vehicle sometimes wont turn off on the key .This seems more prevalant ofter long journeys .It can act normally for weeks then has a sudden fit of non turning off so I have to stall it. Any ideas please Alf

many thank for reply checked oil ok done as mamy checks to ignition as I can .Has been suggested faulty stop solinoid but hard to get at because of imobilizer.

If the `van has done lots of miles..perhaps needs a Decoke.
Could be carbon on the `head glowing after combustion

Assuming we are talking about a diesel, AFAIK a diesel will keep running until it is decompressed or the fuel stops flowing.

Decades ago you pulled out a knob on the dashboard; these days you just turn off a key.

Running on due to carbon etc. is a problem with petrol engines, I think

Sounds like the stop solenoid, my 1.9td went through a period of doing it, then for no reason started behaving perfectly again.
Otherwise the only way to stop it was putting in gear, standing on the brakes, and letting the clutch up.

thanks micky,I dismantled half the camper and got so I could see the stop solanoid but unable to replace it without dismantling the ingector pump as no room to unscrew it and did not fancy doing that.Starts and stops ok at present hope it stays like it Alf
