Hello all, first time posting as just joined.
I own a 2013 fiat doblo van 1.3 engine
Now I noticed the van had been leaking coolant/water when I had been using the van. Only noticed once I stopped and seen it under the van. I’ve had it to my normal mechanic to see what the issue was and he done pressure tests etc and said it’s the head gasket. He can’t complete the work for me anytime soon as too busy and I’m starting up my own business in 2. Weeks so need it completed fast. Anyone know how much I could expect to pay to get this fixed? I’m in Scotland and just wanted to know how much I could possibly expect to pay?
Any replies welcome, thanks.

Hi.
Head gaskets dont tend to 'just fail'

There will normally be an issue that worked it too hard.

Hole in rad : low coolant

Bad coolant : frozen

If its petrol.. it'll take about 4 hours
If its diesel.. its more complex..and potential DPF Problems

Possible bad regen issues helped pop.it

How many miles..?
Had it long.. know its history??

Thanks for reply. I literally just bought the van 2 weeks ago and only noticed something leaked under the van last week. Haven’t really driven it a great deal because I’ve still got my company vehicle right now.
It’s a Diesel engine. 65k miles almost and full service history as was a scottish hydro van. Every time I give the van a run once it cools down and I check the coolant level and there’s nothing in it.

I have seen "head gasket"-like symptoms on 2 different 1.3MJ engines caused by failure of the oil/water heat exchanger (part of the oil filler/filter unit on the older ones, not sure if it's remained the same on newer versions)
In both cases garages had misdiagnosed as HG failure, so maybe worth getting it checked.

But your mechanic checked it.. and lack of compression?

No comeback from seller?

Waterloss could be several things..
Some simple
But if the motor is showing issues.. then it will need fairly major work :(

I haven’t actually said anything to seller yet, I actually got the van fairly cheap(can see why now) will get a second person to check it.

I had a head gasket go on a Doblo I had a few years ago but going off what you have described I would also get a 2nd opinion. When mine went the engine would'nt start and just before it happened steam was coming out of the exhaust. Undo the oil filler cap and look to see if the oil is 'milky' which is what happens when the coolant mixes with oil.
